Does your council collect bins on Bank Holidays?

Ours does. Which means that, yesterday morning, the bin lorry arrived at 6.15am to empty the recycling bin and the garden waste bin lorry came along 30mi uses later.

So no lie in for us.

We used to live somewhere that didn't do a bin collection on Bank Holiday, which was a pain because everyone's collections got moved around for about 3 weeks at Christmas.

Where we live now, our bins are collected on Mondays and, as we're at the start of the round, we have a very early collection. So every Bank Holiday Monday we fail to get a lie in.

Anyone else share my pain?

Never. Never known it happen. Council in my area are on holiday on Bank holidays. They never come at quarter past six in the morning either. That is batshit early! 😬

My bedroom is at the back of my house though, and the windows are fairly soundproof, so they never wake me if I am asleep when they come. (The earliest they have ever come is around half eight in the morning.)

Wtf????? Mine are emptied on a Monday too, and this Monday was recycling. I'm so blooming grateful these men were working and came out! (And I worked all weekend and finished midnight Sunday night), yes my sleep was a bit disrupted early Monday morning but I'm
Grateful they took my rubbish so I didn't have to wait another week. I left them a (sealed) 12 pack of water, some chocolate and an envelope with some cash in. Why would you moan??

No they don't but that means our bins are emptied late.
After Xmas and new year it takes about a month to back to normal collection days

We have a Friday collection. Always collect Good Friday but not on Christmas/New Year bank holidays.

CeriB82 · 02/04/2024 18:44

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t 🙄

Tbh, I feel more sorry for the bin men/women who do not get their Bank Holiday at all. You can just roll over and go back to sleep.
