Pneumonia

Nicetobenice67 · 02/04/2024 14:10

I keep getting recurring chest infections the last one has lasted for 3 months as the dr would not give me antibiotics…long story short saw another dr got antibiotics and had a chest X-ray which found I had pneumonia….my work environment in some areas is not good so there will be a couple of tasks I cannot do now as I’m prone and these areas breed bacteria…having said that I am one of the best workers at my place and there are plenty of other tasks now when I say I cannot do this and that due to my health can they get me out or do they have to put me on the jobs I can do I’m really worried

I don't understand why having pneumonia once, would mean you can't do part of your job? If you are otherwise fit and healthy it should be a one off. What job do you do?

Bubblegummies · 02/04/2024 16:06

Ask for a referral to occupational health so they can work with your employer

I said part of my job there is no ventilation just dirty air that circulates bacteria

If there is poor ventilation then you need to get Health and safety/ environmental health involved.

I’ve been told I won’t have to do that job but not to mention it to anyone else he said he didn’t want a witch hunt if anybody else has a problem they should go to him themselves 🤔

They won’t get you out of anything

They will review your health and how it impacts your role

Absolutely if being exposed to that environment is impacting your health and will result in further sickness then it could be a reasonable adjustment to your role

I've had pneumonia twice, so I know how debilitiating it can be.

Can I ask, how do you know it's your work environment causing it? Do other colleagues get pneumonia more than anyone else you know? Just wondering as when I've had it, I've had a cold/virus which seems to get better , then a week generally going backwards before really struggling, ie I've had an illness before.

NCForQuestions · 02/04/2024 19:50

What sort of role do you do?

What's the environment that's so toxic is causing pneumonia in the staff?

Maybe consider speaking to the HSE?

I keep getting chest infections and the environment I work in sometimes depending on my task there is no clean air and it’s hot so that circulates bacteria…my dr told me this will not help for sure plus every time I’m in this area for a certain amount of time it stars the phlegm cough and so on
