Just that really
Think I need a kick up the bum!

I put about 40% of my take home in various pockets.

KStockHERO · 02/04/2024 13:46

About 75%

That's for both me and DP though - fully shared finances, I couldn't tell you individual figures.

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 02/04/2024 13:50

None of it as my entire salary is eaten up by bills

Rise in mortgage rates and food prices has just about broken me

WooWooWinnie · 02/04/2024 13:51

Unfortunately only about 10-15% at the moment, but it’s better than nothing.

SweetThames · 02/04/2024 13:52

0% for me too. Also don't have a pension. Just about getting by.

ByUmberViewer · 02/04/2024 13:52

I'd say just over half, about 55%. That includes pension though

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 02/04/2024 14:06
SpringOfContentment · 02/04/2024 14:09

Well, technically, 100% of my salary.
But that's because we live off DHs, and mine is about getting out of the house, and accruing a pension rather than "needing" the income.
I earn peanuts!

Bjorkdidit · 02/04/2024 14:10

Surely it depends on your circumstances? Someone who's mortgage, childcare, food, bills etc take all their income won't be able to save anything, but other people who are mortgage and child free will be able to save a lot more.

Do a budget, see how much you have left, decide how much you want to save and how much you will allow yourself to spend and put the money you want to save in a savings account and don't touch it.

Depends on your living costs! For us it is now about 25% - but only because we have no mortgage finally and because we have imminent university costs. All the rest goes on day to day living costs.

jusdepamplemousse · 02/04/2024 14:13

Absolutely nothing. Childcare bills and mortgage, and everything else - nightmare. Hoping once kids are older we can rectify things a bit.

TreesWelliesKnees · 02/04/2024 14:22

I put a third into savings, but only short term savings, eg for car repairs, holidays, annual insurance etc. So they get dipped into fairly regularly.

BringMeSunshineAllDayLong · 02/04/2024 14:24

Absolutely not one penny. We live virtually hand to mouth. I try never to get in debt of any kind as that fucks it all up.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 02/04/2024 14:26

Children are teenagers and I save 20%, not including pensions. When they were pre school age the nursery bill put us into debt.

devildeepbluesea · 02/04/2024 14:28

Zero. Been overspending somewhat so on a tighter budget now to pay that off.

sicilianpizza · 02/04/2024 14:34

2.5% in a good month

FrenchFancie · 02/04/2024 14:39

Between 5 and 10 % depending on the month. It feels very low compared to some!

Biscuitsareme · 02/04/2024 14:44

About 40% 10 months a year. Not December or January though.

aramox1 · 02/04/2024 14:51

10% plus pension. 40%?!! What are you all eating?!

KeepingItUnderTheRadar · 02/04/2024 15:07

Depends what you mean by 'savings'.

Untouched, v long term savings - for a bigger house or to pay a huge chunk off mortgage in many years time - about 10%.

An additional circa 30% goes in savings pots - but these are short term savings, spreading the cost of holidays, travel, Xmas, birthdays etc.

JustJessi · 02/04/2024 15:22

0% at the moment. We’re spending every penny trying to get the new house decorated and fixed up

lifeisawillow3 · 02/04/2024 15:23

None. We don't have any savings

WardrobesAreFull · 02/04/2024 15:24

Some posters are saving so much! What are you saving for??

I save probably about 5-10% per month, maximum. In the past it was more but that was I was saving for something specific e.g. house move or maternity leave.

yutu · 02/04/2024 15:25

30% without any effort

45% with some effort

We're saving mostly for early retirement but will likely take a chunk out of our savings at some point for a new house.
