Tween make-up!

It’s hard to see our kids grow up! My Tween has shown no interest in make up on a daily basis, actually she’s not that fussed at all. However I see some of her friends now in Year 7 wearing like gloss, mascara and hair spray.

Once again DD hasn’t asked just yet but it’ll come soon. What are your 11/12 year olds like in Year 7? Have you found most wear make up? Does anyone know what brands? I guess they just go and buy their own stuff?

At that age DD wasn’t wearing makeup at all, maybe very occasionally for special occasions but it was really only experimental and for fun at that stage. She began wearing concealer and mascara daily around age 14 and things gradually increased from there. Now aged 19 I still wouldn’t say she’s massively into it - hardly ever wears foundation or anything heavy but she does do a nice natural look on a day to day basis and very rarely leaves the house without it on.

Yes perhaps when she is interested I want to take her somewhere to get some nice stuff and be taught how to put it on. I remember when I was 14 wearing the worse shade foundation!!

My dd is 11 and in year 7. She mainly just wears mascara and lip gloss. Most stuff she has is from Revolution as its reasonably priced and they do a huge range! To be honest most of them appear to be more into skincare then make up! My dd wanted Korean brands for Christmas that I had never heard of, and lots of her friends have stuff from Drunk Elephant! She's always doing face masks and intensive hair moisturisers etc! I'm sure make up will become more a thing when she starts getting breakouts.

My DD is getting a lot of breakouts!! I’m trying to help her with that. Not sure how!

Mine is 12 and year 7, she is fair skin and red hair so cant get away with any for school except concealer and lip balm but out of school she wears mascara and blush and now and again I let her wear a little face stuff.

as pp said they are more into skincare, it’s crazy money for crazy brands but she saves pocket money, sells bits on vinted and does chores to earn a bit more to buy it. I’m glad she looks after her skin but I do think teens and tweens are a marketers dream these days!!

I have noticed y7 wearing make up.to school. This seems a recent trend. It supposed to.be a no make up.policy

The Nip n Fab teen range is really good

eyespartyparty · 01/04/2024 22:24

My DD the same age started getting breakouts recently and I've got the Cerave foaming facewash and Boots Rose moisturiser and this seems to have worked perfectly for her skin.

She was also influenced by friends to try a load of skincare stuff when at other people's houses and it just made her spotty and sore so I managed to convince her that less is definitely more when it comes to skincare at their age!!

I started dtds with clear mascara in year 7 but now in year 8 they wear more makeup. Not much to school. They watch tiktoks so are really good without my help. I do have a rule, makeup must be vegan. I’m not vegan but don’t agree with animals being used for beauty.

They have Rimmel vegan foundation, Barry M eye shadow, Rimmel mascara and concealer.

But you will happily eat them + their products?

@goldenretrievermum5 yep - food is essential. I have low iron and green leaves aren’t enough so for health I need meat. I am happy to support meat farming but not the use of animals by the beauty industry. Not sure why that’s confused you.

There are plenty of high quality plant sources for iron. If you’re going to be pedantic about your teen DD only wearing vegan makeup then I really can’t see how you can justify eating animal products when there are so many good alternatives nowadays. Meat is not an essential to life.

TeenLifeMum · 01/04/2024 22:55

@goldenretrievermum5 I have iron infusions and meat substitutes are not enough. You may think they are but I’ll take my doctor’s advice over you if that’s okay.

I am very happy to eat meat - I have no desire to be vegan. However, I do not agree with humans using animals for vanity reasons. I really don’t know how to explain that clearer. Do I enjoy tucking into a steak? Yes. Do I want to wear makeup made of animals or tested on them? No.

DD is the same age. She's more into skin care (face masks, moisturiser, foam cleanser etc) than makeup. Her Cetaphil daily facial cleanser helped with big breakouts.

For makeup she will do lip balm/lipgloss and some days mascara and that's it.
