Anyone au fait with suspicious moles? Photos attached

Would appreciate your thoughts and wisdom on this.

My husband is a golfer of 25 years + and because he plays at a high level, he’s clocked up what must be thousands of hours on golf courses both in the UK and abroad.

He has fine hair and it’s at its finest at the top of his scalp. It’s not balding or thinning but it’s always been so you can see his scalp through it

He’s not particularly good at covering up on the course. He sometimes makes a half arsed attempt with a factor 30 mist thing and some SPF 30 on his face but he doesn’t generally properly do it and only ever when it’s actually sunny. He only occasionally wears a cap

I’ve just noticed this on his head. I know it’s not been there particularly long because I’d have noticed. There’s perhaps 5 or 6 of these patches along with what looks like, well, flea dirt.

I hasten to add it isn’t! He has never had dandruff or any skin flaking issues. These are black in colour, a couple are dark brown and I suppose I could pick them off if I really wanted to.

I’ve taken a photo of three of them.

Thoughts? I’ve told him he needs to see someone to get a mole check or whatever it is - we are fortunate enough that he could pay for this.

He thinks I’m being slightly ridiculous and waved his Ambre Solaire in my face and said he was spraying it on the top of his head!

Would appreciate thoughts and happy to be told it’s just one of those things

Thanks!

I’ve just been to the doctors this week to get something v similar checked (but on my thigh).
Doctor said it’s almost certainly benign, but just occasionally it’s not, so she’s sent pictures to the specialist for confirmation.
In my view worth getting them checked just to be on the safe side.

Unless he has banged his head recently, I'd get them checked. My FIL had similar needed an operation to remove them but is all clear now.

ClaudiaCattipuss · 01/04/2024 16:53

Not banged his head, no.

He can be a little bit prone to these sorts of marks. He had one on his side and one on his face some years ago that were basically benign but never any black / dark brown and never on the exact spot where he's hit by hours and hours of sunshine!

Thank you for the replies

Off he pops to the GP or derm I'd say! Better to be safe than sorry and if it is something undesirable then the sooner it is treated the better.

Well if your DH is "high level " and has played " literally thousands of hours in UK and internationally " and " since you are fortunate enough to pay for it" , then he should be smart enough to know that since he doesn't take care to wear sun screen and cover his " thinning but not balding fair hair" he should go see a dermatologist instead of having his DW ask randoms on MN. :0

Skin cancer can kill you in under 5 years so he should be checked out once a year.

ClaudiaCattipuss · 01/04/2024 16:59

@Whataretalkingabout ha I know. Grin He forbid me from asking on Mumsnet btw but here we are! He'll cope.

Not much I can do on a bank holiday but I've found a clinic who do whole body mole / blemish checks and he's reluctantly agreed to book an appointment

I have regular check ups at the melanoma clinic as I have a genetic risk. They always check my hair, although they say it is very rare to get any on your scalp if you have thick hair. Your DH should get them checked out.

ClaudiaCattipuss · 01/04/2024 17:01

@Aydel good for you being proactive, sounds like you're wise to be so.

I'd not really considered moles on someone's head before tbh but he often gets red skin there because it's visible to the sun

My DH lost a business partner to skin cancer at age 70 from golf playing. And he was dark skinned, Latin origin and his father died at 101.

If your DH wants to go on playing golf , a full body check annually is time well spent. :)

@Whataretalkingabout yes you're right I think.
