Scratched eye - pain relief

My 16 year old son is on his way home from Moorfields a&e after being diagnosed with quite a large scratch on his eye. Understandably he's in a lot of pain and paracetamol isn't touching it. He's had the anaesthetic eye drops which have worked a treat but they'll wear off fairly soon.

He's asthmatic so can't have ibuprofen which is what the doctor recommended. He's supposed to be going on holiday today with his friend's family and I hate the thought of him in pain.

Has anyone found anything that offers relief for this type of pain which doesn't contain ibuprofen?

Co-codamol?

On the positive side the eye is one of the fastest healing parts of the body so hopefully he should be feeling better fairly quickly

Thanks @dimllaishebiaith, I'll get him to pick some up to use for a couple of days until he's over the worst of it!

Is he allowed any other eye drops? If so, speak to a pharmacist, but maybe some generic soothing OTC eye drops, and keep them in the fridge?

Keeping the eye moist and closed helps a bit but honestly it's so painful he's going to be fit for nothing for a week or so.

Paracetamol will work as well.

Has he been given antibiotic drops and lubricants?

The eye will feel more comfortable if he keeps it shut.

It will feel better in a couple of days.

Have they given him a patch or suggested keeping it closed?

I had keyhole surgery on my eye a few years ago which necessitated 3 little holes with a stitch in each and used micropore tape to just tape the eyelid closed for a couple of days as it was blinking that was uncomfortable,
