Easter Eggs not wrapped in foil

Noticed this today when DC opened theirs. Eggs are boxed without foil covering them.

Just opened one of mine (can’t sleep so thought I’d have a bit with a cuppa!). It just seems a bit odd that they’re not wrapped. I know they’re in a box but you need the foil to wrap what’s left of it in to keep it fresh. It’s like it’s open to the elements!

Obviously it’s a save the environment thing (and saves manufacturers lots) but it doesn’t sit right with me. I mean soggy paper straws and now naked eggs!

Anyone else think this is not cricket?

Mine is an Extra Special one from Asda, sealed cardboard box but no foil or plastic packaging. I presume it’s for environmental reasons as foil isn’t recyclable everywhere.

mondaytosunday · 01/04/2024 09:18

Hmmm. All our eggs were wrapped. The amount of boxing is ridiculous though.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 01/04/2024 09:39

Can you not put them in Tupperware, cling film or tin foil yourself like you probably would with leftovers of any other products?

They come in a box, they are not just sitting around with no packaging, otherwise noone would buy them!

But OP are suggesting hers are boxed, but not foil wrapped within that box.

Yes indeed, but that post was in response to a PP who talked as if they were sitting bare naked on a shelf!

My M&S one wasn't wrapped in foil and it tastes stale.

Oh dear

powershowerforanhour · 01/04/2024 21:08

M+S, naked but for the cardboard, just the cardboard no plastic window, tastes fine, not gonna get a chance to go stale. Fine by me.

Loub55 · 01/04/2024 21:24

I got DH a Bailey's easter egg from Aldi, and we were surprised when he opened the box that it wasn't wrapped in foil!

IncessantNameChanger · 01/04/2024 21:26

My mini egg one was foil wrapped.

JenniferBooth · 01/04/2024 21:45

I bought DM a Sainsburys Taste the Difference one last year and that was just in a box not foil wrapped.

We had Cadbury buttons and a smarties one. Both foil wrapped. I wouldn't eat them otherwise. I can't imagine the Food Hygiene implications of a shop selling chocolate without a wrapper - completely exposed to the elements. It's not like you can wash it!

Yet again hygiene is being sacrificed for eco reasons

We have had/have Twirl, Flake, Mini Eggs, Reese’s, Dairy Milk and assorted Thorntons. Together with Baileys and Guinness ones, so different manufacturers. None of them foil wrapped.

Quite annoyed actually as that will definitely have an effect on freshness and we have boxes of half eaten eggs all over the house. Obviously can’t put loads of boxes in the fridge! Try to eek them out for a few days each. Hardly good for the environment if I have to use my own tin foil to wrap them.

What madness is this. I can’t be the only one with naked eggs!

I got my little one a dairy free one from Aldi and was also shocked there was no foil, it just seems wrong 😕

HunterHearstHelmsley · 01/04/2024 21:49

We have a ridiculous amount of eggs this year. All but one are foiled wrapped. The only one that isn't is an Aldi own one. I just cracked it over a tupperware and it's in the fridge. Tastes fine.

Dartmoorcheffy · 01/04/2024 21:51

Just use your own foil 🤣

Our montezuma one had no foil. It means you can't roll them! Very annoying. Kit kat one did have foil... but in the end didn't get rolled.

Roll them how? Egg rolling is with decorated real eggs. Isn't it!?

How is it completely exposed to the elements if it's in a box?

JobMatch3000 · 02/04/2024 01:42

Because the one I had was wrapped in foil within its cardboard packaging which had a "window" which I don't think is unusual.
If the chocolate had not been wrapped in foil, and was 'naked' it would have been exposed.

My Thorntons one has no foil. Obviously it is in a box without a window.
Its held in place within the box in plastic. I prefer the ones in foil and held in place by cardboard within the box.

I had twirl and flake and both were wrapped in purple foil and then their box.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 02/04/2024 03:04

These are all foil wrapped don't know what's happened to yours. Either you've been smoking something or one of your kids is playing an April Fool. Or you are.

JenniferBooth · 03/04/2024 18:47

My Kit Kat egg i opened today was foil wrapped. The egg was bloody sickly though

Smartiepants79 · 03/04/2024 18:51

We’ve had, nestle and Cadbury and Lindor in this house and all have foil.

TheTripThatWasnt · 03/04/2024 18:53

I can't see that foil makes any difference to how it keeps. It's not airtight.

I just opened one that was 'naked' in its box and didn't give it a second thought. The box was completely sealed, which has done a perfectly good job of housing it. The chocolate tastes fine.

milesmachine · 03/04/2024 18:55

THIS WAS AN APRIL FOOLS THREAD FROM MONDAY

OP hasn't posted again. She did well though. Subtly and yet frustrating to read!

CrushingOnRubies · 03/04/2024 19:30

M&S and hotel chocolat eggs weren't wrapped in foil. Now you mention it. Bloody awkwardly because the foil is handy to contain shards of broken chocolate in
