Is this a small, normal or large amount of food for a day!?

I want to lose a few kilos and I just can’t seem to get my diet right. Recently I’ve been trying to reduce carbs and sugar - obviously the Easter weekend is not the best time for this. I’m fairly active in that I run after two small children every day but not working out like I used to! Is this a lot or a little for a day?

breakfast: one miniature hot cross bun. A small portion of greek yoghurt and honey.

lunch: steak, some pepper sauce, some carrot and suede mash, cabbage and cougettes

dinner: an omelette with tomatoes and some compte cheese and a side of rocket.

then I lost my will and had two and a half dark chocolate Leibniz with milky tea.

No snacks otherwise.

its not really a diet for losing weight is it? I don’t know how to manage - I just get so hungry, could eat and eat! Any tips or knowledge about reducing carbs etc welcome

TIA

Protein. Eat 30g protein per meal. Stop with the carbs at breakfast. You’ll feel fuller and therefore less likely to hear the cry of the chocolate biscuits…

Thanks - any good breakfast ideas?

Have the omelette for breakfast…I add mushrooms, spinach and tomato and a tsp of pesto to the beaten eggs.

I don’t think it’s a terrible diet in terms of content, besides the carb/sugar factor of breakfast.

Main meal is fine, just careful with the sauce and maybe just plain carrots would have been better.

Salad with some kind of lean protein for the third meal of the day and you’re grand.

I love 150g cottage cheese (full fat) with 2 hard boiled eggs chopped through it, salt, pepper and chives.
3 egg omelette with 2oz cheese, spinach, spring onion or whatever veg you fancy

Thanks, I sometimes force myself to skip breakfast and fast until lunch, not sure if this makes me eat more calories later though. Is it always good to do breakfast, or might it just kick start hunger for the day?

Better to have breakfast than avoid it I think

It depends what works for you. I do quite well having breakfast mid morning, lunch around 1 pm and an earlish dinner, so effectively 16:8.

As for what the OP is eating, it looks on the right lines except two sugary snacks should be the exception not the norm, but it's the overall diet and calorie consumption that matters over time. If you're in calorie deficit, the occasional extra couple of biscuits won't make any difference.

So obviously you need to consider portion size and how much oil you're using for cooking things like the steak, omelette etc. A steak for example could be anything from 2-300 calories for a small lean one to over 1000 for a big fatty one cooked in lots of butter.

Thanks everyone this is really helpful. Any recommendations for sweet snacks that are still low sugar and carb?
think I’ve heard people talking about things like energy balls with dates and dark chocolate for example. Will be so hard to ignore my sweet tooth!
