Anti anxiety drugs

I'm flying in a few days and already starting to get panic attacks.

In the past I've been prescribed a few diazepam to get me through the destination and return flights, but my GP practice is impossible to get through to , even when I had a severe asthma attack recently (and was hospitalised), so I know they're not going to let me speak to a GP for something so trivial.

I'm prescribed sertraline and Epilim (for bipolar), but don't always take the sertraline due to having frequent migraines recently (am menopausal, but periods started again, so hormonal migraines have returned with a vengeance), and the pharmacist said not to take it if I felt a migraine coming on and needed to take sumatriptan. I've also found it useless for anxiety.

I have codeine tablets, which were prescribed for severe pain, but I try to manage without, so I could take a couple of those. I also have one zopiclone left (3.75mg), maybe if I cut it in half and took half on way there and other on way back it would help?

I am prescribed promethazine (Phenergan), and I know they're used for travel sickness so I could have one of those (though I've already taken my two tonight and am having a panic attack so don't think they will work).

I am not planning on taking all these things, just looking at what I have already and will make me not freak out on the plane (and I cry and vomit I get that freaked out).

Mindfulness/mediation/listening to music will not help, as it's the sensation of taking off I cannot bear, then I tend to be OK.

I don't want to freak out in front of DD, and have managed with Valium in the past, but I don't think I can get any beforehand.

I have codeine on prescription for pain and know that just two (30mg) can ease my anxiety and help me cope with something for a few hours. They take the sting off. I know this is not something I should rely on in the long term so am extremely careful with them. If it would help you with those few hours would you consider them?

No one should be offering you advice on what to take on here.

could you see a private GP and discuss with them as you’re getting pushed for time? They’re usually available via phone as well as f2f.

I can empathise with you, I have panic attacks on every single flight, during take off and landing usually but sometimes while cruising and they're awful. My GP won't prescribe diazepam, apparently they've been told not to for flying phobias anymore. Are you flying with someone that can distract DD?

The fear of having a panic attack and resistance against it is usually what makes it worse and makes it last longer for me. The best thing I've found is just to accept that I'll have a panic attack, acknowledge it when it's happening, then pop to the toilet when the seatbelt sign is off and splash my face and wrists with cold water, and it's gone as fast as it comes.
