Two teeth receding *picture attached* - reassurance seeker!

Been told my gums are healthy. Yet these two teeth seem to continuously recede no matter what I do. They get red/inflamed regularly.

I've used Corsodyl, Gengigel and floss often.

I've been trying to whiten my teeth over the past few days as I'm feeling really insecure about it but this part of my gum has bled badly when flossing this morning (never happens), so it's clearly not liking it.

Please reassure me that it doesn't look like these two teeth are going to fall out (first hypochondriac thought).

Watching with interest. As a nighttime teeth grinder, all of my teeth are like that 😕

Go to the denetist I thik you may have gum disease - easily sorted the sooner you go to see dentist

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator I've not long been to the dentist for a clean and been told yearly is fine now so it's frustrating Confused

I just finished Invisalign treatment and had the receding gum problem around front tooth explained to me -my front tooth in the same position as yours had started out the same, as we age it is very common for the front teeth to shift forward gradually.

I ended up having to have the offending tooth extracted as it eventually receded so much was constantly inflamed gum and almost showing the root.
The dentist & orthodontist said that even if it was realigned the gum would stay receeded and eventually become unstable.

I used to terrify myself googling gum grafts 😓 when you brush that tooth just brush it upwards softly around the gum to avoid pushing it down any further.

@Longday24 Blush that's scary!

How old are you? Sometimes it's just the position of your teeth. I also have that but more pronounced. It increases with age. It doesn't bother me though as I don't show my teeth much when smiling

lorcans · 31/03/2024 11:20

@bradpittsbathwater mid 20s. The appearance of it wouldn't bother me at all, so long as I am not continuously anxious that it's going to fall out.

I'm 39 and mine have been receding for a while. It doesn't progress much so you should be ok. Definitely keep an eye on it though. Dentists said my teeth are in no danger of falling out. Flossing, brushing etc is the best thing and you seem to be looking after them.

lorcans · 31/03/2024 12:10

@bradpittsbathwater that's reassuring, thanks!

Are you brushing too hard are you left or right handed? - The difference can be when you change brushing angle you inadvertently brush too hard causing recession.

lorcans · 31/03/2024 13:58

@notthedressiwanted I don't think I'm brushing too hard. I wonder if I'm missing those teeth specifically when I brush though so they aren't getting as much as the others.

@ocs30 yeah I probably will do, although they've definitely been receding like this for a few years so have been seen. I don't grind my teeth, my teeth have looked like that (chipping/thinning) since I was about 10 Grin not sure what causes it young.

from the picture you do not have gum disease. It's because the teeth are slightly further forward in the mouth that the gums are longer because there is less bone at the front of the tooth.

It is made worse because from the photo it looks as if you may have a cross bite , some of your front teeth tuck in over the top of your lower teeth ,as normal, here your two two upper teeth tuck behind the the lower teeth pushing them forwards.

This will get worse as the years go by and the only way to stop it getting worse is with a brace. You can get an opinion from an orthodontist for around £150 and grace work starts at around £2000.
