Did the clocks go forward last night?

I've not long woke up and feel quite tired still. I'm usually up at 7 most mornings.
I've googled and can't work out if the clocks are going forward tonight or already have last night.

I’d completely forgot about it. Thought my DC had finally learned how to lie in!

Astariel · 31/03/2024 09:23

You may as well embrace the fake lie in feeling if you forgot. 🤣

STBXH told me he would pick DS up at 9. I’m still waiting. And wondering if he’s going to use the clock change as his excuse when he turns up late.

Except I know his phone changes automatically. So it’s no longer the excuse it used to be when you had to remember to manually change your clocks.

MIL is absolutely convinced that she loses an hours sleep.

she goes to bed an hour earlier to make up for it.

she has nothing to be up for but there is nothing that convinces her otherwise

Yes they did. I didn't tell the dog but she put her body click forward anyway!

Same thing with my dog! She came stomping through and stared at me. I did my best to pretend to be asleep but she huffed about until I got up. Now she's eaten she's gone back to bed for a post breakfast nap. Demon hound.

No wonder it felt so early when DD woke at 7:30!

Flapearedknave · 31/03/2024 09:31

Yeay, my oven is the right time again!

Heliss · 31/03/2024 10:30

I thought it was tonight, the bank holiday threw me.

Woke up at 6am and congratulated myself and the cat for sleeping so long (chronic menopausal 5am riser).

I knew. I forgot. I woke up, checked the time and thought 'blimey, I've woken up early'.

Happens with automatic forwarding of phones and wotnot.

Surely you'd think you'd woken up late not early?

Technically, it's always a Sunday morning as it happens at 1am. 😉

Or does it??

It’s the twilight zone.

Sunquest · 31/03/2024 10:34

The car clock is right now, but I'm used to it being wrong so will have to remember it's now showing the right time for the next 6 months.

Flapearedknave · 31/03/2024 09:31

Yeay, my oven is the right time again!

Mine too, and my car clock! I can never remember which time the heating and water controls follow and they are a faff to change so they stay the same.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 31/03/2024 10:47

Lol@ blaming the government.
It's always the last Sunday in March.

LenaLamont · 31/03/2024 10:49

It’s always the last Sunday in March and in October. Always. I find knowing that helps me remember.

LenaLamont · 31/03/2024 10:49

(Obviously that applies to the U.K.; other countries choose differently)

If she always goes to bed and gets up at the same time she does lose an hour's sleep though

(Hopeless attempt at the theme tune)

Explainitlikeimfive · 31/03/2024 11:00

This explains a lot..

DS waking up late at 6.51 (he's usually a 6 am riser)

And the kitchen clock appearing to be broke but then still moving on. I thought it had just gone slow 😂

CeriB82 · 31/03/2024 11:10

Don’t people know when the clocks change?

HappiestSleeping · 31/03/2024 11:10

It would appear not.

crumblingschools · 31/03/2024 11:14

You do lose an hour’s sleep if you go to bed and get up at normal time, like you gain one in the autumn when clock goes back.

Ivyy · 31/03/2024 11:16

Why do they wait til 1am to move forward an hour?

As a child I remember my parents putting all the clocks forward at midnight, did the time change from going forward at 12 to 1am or was this just my parents?!

I'm thinking maybe that poster meant if their MIL just slept until she naturally woke. Hence the "she had nothing to get up for" comment. So she'd naturally wake at 8 rather than 7. But whether they go to bed an hour early or get up an hour "late" they have still lost an hour somewhere yes.

Bigtrip2026 · 31/03/2024 11:20

Watched a young teenager in our local chip shop get herself in a complete tizzy about what time she should set her clock to get up on time the next day. The whole clock changing thing completely derailed her young brain. Her colleagues did their best to explain it to her but bless her she was a confused mess. 😅

Ivyy · 31/03/2024 11:21

@shoppingshamed I think that's why the mil goes to bed an hour earlier, so she can get up at her usual time but have the same amount of sleep hours

Obviously you can change your own clicks at any time you like but clearly the official time has to be in the small hours for least trouble.

Imagine if it was 2pm 😂
