When do you put out the egg hunt?

Our kids are early risers and their bedrooms overlook the garden. Could do it now but worried it’llrain and they’ll get eaten.

Whats the norm?

When they’re asleep, I use outside spaces that are dry such as greenhouse, shed, treehouse, letter box etc.

Or put them in sandwich bags so they stay dry.

We have riddle type clues for each hiding place.

Kalevala · 30/03/2024 20:40

While they are eating breakfast. They are told not to look as it's cheating. If it looks like rain then I'd do it inside.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 30/03/2024 20:43

I used to just throw them randomly in a few handfuls while they were eating breakfast in the front of the house. Then one year it rained and I started doing it in the living room and realised that was much easier! Still do it that way now even though they are teens.

Newsenmum · 30/03/2024 20:45

I need to go through the kitchen to get to the garden 🤔 if it’s nice weather it’ll look weird they’re inside

I think I’ll just have to get up early

I don't, the 🐰does it.

TTPD · 30/03/2024 20:50

The evening before, but we do it inside.

Rudolftheorange · 30/03/2024 20:51

After lunch, in the garden.

TheGriffle · 30/03/2024 20:58

Our Easter bunny hides them round the living room after the kids have gone to sleep. We buy all the eggs, leave them out for him and he hides them for us. That’s why sometimes we find stray ones a couple of weeks later as mummy and daddy didn’t know where they were hidden!

Is there a window? Just shut the blind and tell them not to look.

Esgaroth · 30/03/2024 21:14

We used to have to stay inside with the curtains closed while mum did ours. We pretended it was the Easter bunny but it was only a joke. I think my mum couldn't be bothered to make it such a big deal as Father Christmas! It was just as much fun 😁

HalebiHabibti · 30/03/2024 21:16

We (I mean, the Easter Bunny) have to wait until first light on Easter Sunday because otherwise Mr Foxy eats the chocolate (he did this one year, it was dreadful)!

Clearinguptheclutter · 30/03/2024 21:20

I’m sending dh out in a bit, but last year the squirrels got at least one

soundsys · 30/03/2024 21:21

Do children actually think it's a bunny (kind of like Santa) or is it just sort of a game? (I'm from another country and have always been confused about this!)

My youngest child has put on bunny ears and hidden eggs around the house for her siblings after hearing about it from friends - job done 😁

Elephantswillnever · 30/03/2024 21:25

I get one of the kids to do it, Easter bunny helper. They get ears and a basket of eggs. It’s always popular.

Esgaroth · 30/03/2024 21:27

Now I live somewhere that doesn't have the Easter bunny, but we have to make a treasure hunt with clues and it is much more labour intensive. It is a pain in the arse tbh but sort of worth it to see how much fun they have solving the clues.

I think it varies a lot more than believing in Santa does. I certainly never believed in the Easter bunny growing up, and neither does my DD - not because either of us are just so clever to work it out, it just wasn't/isn't presented as real like Santa. It's done as a bit of fun.

But I think some people do treat it in a way that is more similar to Santa.

Cbljgdpk · 30/03/2024 21:28

I struggle with this and wish I’d never gone with the idea of an Easter bunny. We put them out at some point in the day when the kids are distracted but they’re so excited for chocolate this year that I’ve hidden a few in the house with a note about being outside later

Roryhon · 30/03/2024 21:31

I wouldn’t put it out overnight. Vermin etc love chocolate.

WutheredOut · 30/03/2024 21:31

We used to do it before they woke up….now they are 10 and 12 so the bunny leaves out Easter word searches, colouring in and Easter maths games and a few small eggs to keep them occupied when they first wake up - then we let them watch their tablets - we have leisurely cuppa and then put eggs out around the garden while they are transfixed by technology

It does seem that many people now present the bunny as a real thing - I’m not into this at all and it was never a thing when I was a child. I find it awkward having to reiterate to my kids it’s not real because teachers etc are acting like it is, but I don’t want to get into the Santa chat as that’s different in my mind…

TheaBrandt · 30/03/2024 21:34

Easter maths games?!

heavensakes · 30/03/2024 21:36

My DC know I put the eggs out so I do it in the morning. I keep the blinds closed so no cheating.

purpleme12 · 30/03/2024 21:37

Do you mean as the Easter bunny? Or as you?
I do the Easter bunny anyway here.
So I do it when she's asleep so obviously hide them around the house as couldn't leave them outside all night.

(And no I didn't actually get brought up believing in the Easter bunny at all. Honestly I didn't even know it was a thing till I was older. So I wasn't intending on doing it with my child. But then the Easter bunny events and mentions of the Easter bunny are everywhere for children and I got carried away with magic and went along with it 🤣)

Dewdilly · 30/03/2024 21:38

We’ve never, ever done an egg hunt. Isn’t it an American thing? I’m not aware of the Easter Bunny either traditionally.
