I've inherited a dinky cottage and a static caravan both in Cornwall. I'm about to start letting them both and I need a business name. I'm a bit mentally drained with the whole thing as I inherited them from my much missed dm. Hoping to run the business with my dds who are 11 and 14.

My hairdresser thinks I should call it Shep*d Huts - may relate to my surname ha ha. No actual huts involved though. I quite like it!

Dp only suggesting something holdings or Ltd which is a bit boring since I want to use insta to promote.

Cottage is couples retreat as it's tiny. Van sleeps 8.

Literally any ideas welcome!!

Don't use huts.....that will just confuse people.

Can the name be linked to something specific to the area?

Adjectives can be helpful........restful, quaint, comfy, cosy etc

Garlicking · 30/03/2024 13:05

I'm sorry for your loss.
What did your mum call them?

DarkCloudy · 30/03/2024 13:07

It’s a mystery why anyone ever puts “limited” or “holdings” in a company name. No one cares why kid if legally entity you have set up.

BlossomPill · 30/03/2024 13:07

I'd look to the landscape or local area for naming purposes. Hill View, or woodland retreat etc.

Agree. You could look to the name of the hill, river, wood, field or village if nobody else has used it.

MaggieFS · 30/03/2024 13:11

Yep, also agree to making a beautiful scenic reference

Xxx [locality name] holidays

Or xxx forge cottages

Xxx bakery house

And so on.

oui · 30/03/2024 13:19

Have a look on some holiday rental websites for some inspo.

Your mums name and Cottage? Her favorite flowers Cottage etc. I've stayed in a Jasmine Cottage, Holly Cottage, The Old Dairy, Rose Cottages, The Shrubbery, Little Owl Barns. I feel you're probably overthinking it really.

BetterCare · 30/03/2024 13:22

Firstly sorry about your Mum it is never an easy time.

Are you going to rent them through Air BnB and other holiday let companies? If so then the name of your business is not relevant. Even if you market them yourselves you would market each one individually so again the business name would not be important.

If the business name is just for registration and accounting purposes then it doesn't really matter what it is called. If you intend to grow the business and add more properties, then maybe you need a name that encompasses them all.

I was a business coach for a long time and one of my biggest frustrations is poorly named businesses. People try to be too smart or cutesy and the names then end up becoming dated. I learnt that a better way to name a business is one where it either 'does what it says on the tin' or it doesn't age.

For example Cornwall Holiday Lets (which will be taken but you get my idea) or use your surname or your Mum's name.

Also, don't forget if you are going to set up a website, facebook page and other social media accounts check that the names are available.

This is a great website to do that.

Shepherd’s Rest

or town name cottage

LipstickLil · 30/03/2024 13:24

If it's not a Shepherd's Hut, don't call it one, you'll just confuse and annoy people and you'll miss a lot of potential bookings.

If it's a cute cottage, give it a cute cottage name. Rose, Briar, Bluebell, etc Cottage. As for the static caravan - Bay, Hill, River, Meadow View. You're selling an idea, a dream of a relaxing, lovely holiday in Cornwall. Keep that in mind.

Aydel · 30/03/2024 13:26

Elfin grove or Pixie Cottage for the tiny cottage.

Watchthedoormat · 30/03/2024 13:30

Cottage -Liliput Muse
Van- The Octo Van

Dinky cottage

EllBellWell · 30/03/2024 16:37

Something with a nod to DM maybe? My DM middle name is Nelly so I would consider Nellys Lets or similar. Simple but personal with a backstory

She didn't - it was ** road name which is a little confusing because the road name is what you call the big hilly area in Devon and exmoor so like 25 the valley....
