Does an ear plug holder exist?

Very tired sigh.
Another night of trying to sleep ( we're away) with trying to hold ear plugs in my ears TIGHT all night

I suspect this is a fruitless rant, but if anyone knows of a device to jam them.in without me having to hold my fingers in I'd love to know, as I'm clearly to tired to put the right words in Google atm....

Are you using a good pair of earplugs? They should stay in on their own and should block the sound. If they don't, can you try a different make? You could then pack the outer ear with cotton wool.

What sort of ear plugs are you using? I can't use the foam ones that are in-ear - they just fall out. I find the silicon ones much better - they just cover the ear opening rather than being pushed inside. And they stay put. Macks are my preferred brand (on Amazon) but Boots do them too.

What sort of ear plugs are you using? I've used the foam ones you squish, and the silicone Christmas tree shaped ones, and never had them fall out.

Are you pushing them in far enough so that they aren't catching on the pillow and being pulled out?

StandardLampski · 30/03/2024 11:04

I've tried loop ones... not impressed. But may try again tonight....

I tried wax ones last night, which were not good for me..
Normally use rhubarb and custard ones, I can't hear speaking, but oh dear God still the snoring... I really need to have them jammed in with my finger....

I'll try christmas tree ones next...

Or a spade 🙄

If they're not tight in your ears they are not properly fitted. Earplugs should never fall out.
You could try a hairband and arrange it over your ears.
Unfortunately earplugs are not a great solution for snoring. They don't block all the low frequency noise and vibration. And the rhythmic nature of it means that your brain stays alert, expecting the next one.
My ex's extremely loud snoring was so bad I could only sleep if I went to the spare room.
You have my sympathy - people think it's funny or that it's easily fixed by using earplugs, but it really isn't. Being woken every few minutes by a really obnoxious loud noise right in your ear is really horrible.

StandardLampski · 30/03/2024 22:31

It is 😒
And we have no easy solution.
Ideally seperate bedrooms. But due to kids getting older sharing isn't an option any more
Shifts make using sofa a pain.

He has already had an operation which made no difference

And yes. I think the expectation of the next snore is what makes me struggle to fall asleep.

Have you tried these? I swear by them... I hold them in my palm for around 20 minutes so they're warm and then mould into my ear. I know you said you'd tried wax ones but these are great, in my opinion. I can't hear DH if they're in correctly.

Try smaller ones. I use Mack’s Dreamgirl because the big ones fall out of my ears too.

Nope, but I will! Thank you for the suggestions !

I used these in hospital recently, they cut out all the shouting and banging that was going on overnight.

PoppingTomorrow · 31/03/2024 11:02

Have you tried white noise?

Sewaccidentprone · 31/03/2024 11:06

The trick is to roll them between your finger and thumb to make them really narrow, then pull the side of your earlobe back to straighten your ear canal and then put them in. You should feel them slightly going in, then feel/hear them expanding to back to full size.

the only ones I get on with are the green Howard Leight Max Lite Ear Plugs which although big are super soft and squishy.

my dh snores and we live on quite a busy road, so they’re invaluable. I actually can’t sleep without them any more as I’m so use to them!

Strawberriesandmelons · 31/03/2024 11:10

Try buying ear defenders from screwfix. I used these and wax earplugs when hospital due to the noise and couldn't eat anything

Strawberriesandmelons · 31/03/2024 11:10

I used these ones

I have those from screwfix ! No help at all for me... though may try again in combination with the suggested ear smaller earplugs...

The silicone tree shaped ones are the best imo. You can get them on amazon OP.

Nutellanjam · 02/04/2024 09:06

have to say, I struggled for years with regular ear plugs, they either fell out or irritated the life out of my ears.
Someone on here I think pointed out that we do not all have the same size ear canals, a thought which until that point had never occurred to me. That was when I ordered the dream girl ones which were a game changer for me.

They're a bit cheaper in the US, so if you ever find yourself there stock up!

Shinyandnew1 · 02/04/2024 09:42

I agree with the coloured Christmas tree shaped ones from Amazon-they don’t fall out of my ears.
