Easter egg hunt. Help with clues please!

Young DS has just started to read and I want to do a hunt around the house.

But my mind has drawn a total blank!

This year, I want him to be able to work it out for himself, but the clues need to be fairly easy to comprehend for him to manage, and all the clues I can find online are overcomplicated and cryptic.

Anyone care to share their simple but not too simple ideas? At the moment all I can think of is ‘under bed’ or ‘behind door’ I’m stuck!!

How well can they read? I will be doing a simple one word easter egg hung with cvc words but I’m guessing you’re looking for something more complex than this.

Things like ‘Look in the place where we keep our teeth clean’, ‘What keeps your feet dry when jumping in puddles,’ ‘Look under something big, blue and soft’ etc

What do you mean?
I just put things like 'where are the tins?' so they go look in the cupboard
'where do we wash ourselves?' so they look in the bathroom
Etc etc

I wouldn't worry too much about simple clues like 'under bed' at this age - sounds ideal.

You could try some like 'where Daddy sleeps' ''where the milk lives' maybe?

Tbh at this age I would just scatter them everywhere including some completely obvious ones and let them at it!

I agree with PP, keep it simple. Do you know what phonics phase he is on? VC words like 'at, on, in' can help with directions, if he has covered & can read phase 5, using 'under, with, out/outside' can be read too.
My nan & grandad used to do a hunt with clues when we were younger & we loved it! We felt so grown up being able to do it by ourselves. Enjoy!

Download a chatGPT app, and write "give me a children's clue for bananas", etc.

We have done easy riddles over the past few years -
'The more I dry the wetter I become' (towel)
'I get smaller every time you take a bath' (soap)
I have 4 legs but cannot walk (table)
'I have 2 hands and face but never smile' (clock)

Or rhyming:
'This place is where you lay your head, check under me on your ....' (bed)

We have a ridiculously small house this year and older dc so plan to have them crack some codes which will reveal where the eggs are. We don't scatter them round the house because we have a dog.

"......................., .......................... on the wall, who's the fairest of them all"
Mirror clue - reverse the text so that when it's held up to the mirror, the next hiding place is revealed.
Give your teddy a hug
The place where you get clean at night
Colour by number that reveals the place - 'fridge', 'sofa', something like that.
Jigsaw puzzle with a picture of the hiding place - print on a piece of card

Chatgpt (an AI website) will generate age appropriate clues for you in about 0.003 of a second. Put in your kids age and the gist of your house ie: 3 bedrooms with utility.
