Home insurance price increases

I've just got my home insurance (contents and building) renewal through and have been quoted £450 - an increase of £150 on last year! I've done a price comparison and all the quotes are coming out about the same or more for the equivalent package.

I know car insurance has shot up but didn't realise home insurance had increased so much as well. Anyone else?

Yes. Ours went up about 25% for no reason

I was pleasantly surprised by ours. It's gone up modestly over the years from £150 (2017) to £179 now.

What company is that please? I'm wondering if there are some not on the comparison websites that I can try.

I've also found my home insurance has gone up by around £150 to £450 (with a £350 excess too). Apart from a low quote from one company, all other quotes seem to be quite high.
Has anyone found a reputable company that's much lower?

Phone them up and ask for a discount or you'll go elsewhere. Ours went up by £110, we phoned and they reduced it back down by £105 as we were a 'valued customer'. It's always worth asking.

I phoned to say that I was getting quotes a bit cheaper elsewhere and they took £40 off! I might leave it a few days and see if I can get any better quotes or go back and see if they will take anything else off.

My quote was about that and I thought it was quite good.

What amount of excess are most people paying? Mine is set at £350 for both contents and buildings. Some of the quotes I'm doing have excesses of £100. Not sure if it makes a massive difference to the price or not though.

Mine went up from £220 last year to £270 this year. Rang them up, they reduced it to £240. Always worth a go.
