To put a 100% viscose T-shirt in a tumble dryer

Posting for traffic.

What’s the worst that will happen? How much will it shrink? Or will it congeal into a plasticky ball of goo?

It'll shrink enough to be too small.

viscose shrinks 10-15%. More if it was an expensive item that you love.

bluecomputerscreen · 28/03/2024 17:59

it would dry quickly on a line anyway.

My mum is going into a care home where they boil wash and then tumble dry everything. I have gone through her wardrobe and 99% of her clothes are viscose. The 1% is silk.

@Jins - will it shrink just the once or every time it’s laundered? Once would be OK but every time……????

Depends on the dryer settings surely.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 28/03/2024 22:17

I've done this . Probably some
Shrinkage but IME everything shrinks in the wash/dry somewhat .

Viscose is not plastic so it won't melt. It may possibly shrink though, like cotton would.

Jins · 29/03/2024 07:33

@Frankinsenseless it shrinks just once but the fabric tightens every time it’s washed so you think it has shrunk. It relaxes when you wear it. It may not shrink evenly though and if it hasn’t been cut on the grain it may end up very uneven.

Disclaimer - I do a lot of dressmaking with viscose, I’m not a laundry expert
