A question for school teachers/heads

I go into schools for my job. Would wearing a suffragette lanyard be considered controversial in any way, or not?
I don’t want to get in trouble at work or ruffle any feathers. Thanks.

I wouldn’t have thought so at all. I am in a primary school and we learn about the suffragettes as part of one of our topics, we also have multiple books in classrooms and libraries about famous suffragettes.

I wouldn't have thought so.

DustyLee123 · 28/03/2024 12:22

I think it might be considered anti trans these days?

No not at all. If anything it would be seen as a positive thing!

OrangeLemonLime24 · 28/03/2024 12:23

I’m a teacher and I can’t imagine anyone giving two hoots. We’d give you one of our own red visitor lanyards too so it would be hard to see your own properly anyway.

I have a ' women won't Weesht' phone cover and I work in secondary. If I was to be questioned about it I would cite the equality act, freedom of belief.

I find it more concerning that adult members of staff are walking around with pronoun badges on to be honest.

Doubt it. Most adults are sane, subscribe to reality and would gasp in horror at the thought of erasing the history of women

DustyLee123 · 29/03/2024 07:30

Thanks all, I shall wear my lanyard with pride then.

well, some staff are walking around our school with Harry Potter lanyards, so if your school doesn't have a set lanyard imposed, whatever you want is generally fine!

Some schools specify what lanyard you wear though, and have colour codes you need to stick to

DustyLee123 · 29/03/2024 07:34

@PithyLion I’m not employed by a school, I go into them.

u would need to wear the appropriately coloured biditor lanyard yoo. Go for it.

Then check with the school - some schools require visitors to wear a certain colour lanyard. Otherwise, no, I think it sounds like a meaningful and respectful lanyard to be wearing

Can you share a link to buy one?

Suffragettes were important figures in history who children learn about in primary school. It would be completely appropriate and could prompt interesting conversation.

Have a look on the Let Women Speak website, they have them there.
