UTI can I contact midwife for this?

I'm 20+3. I have had a UTI since Monday - strong burning pain when peeing, lower abdominal discomfort . I get a lot of UTIs so am familiar with the symptoms. GP did a dipstick test and it was negative but the dipsticks often are for me but they gave me antiobios anyway. Got initially a bit better but today I've woken up and feel significantly worse - feel feverish, back pain, generally really fatigued and unwell and still have UTI symptoms. I tried to call my GP but they have no appointments and advised I contact 111. 111 online told me to contact my GP.

Can I contact my midwife about this?

Maternity Triage is the number you need - you should have been given it for reduced fetal movements, bleeding, labour etc?

i have it but wasn't sure it was appropriate to call for UTI

Absolutely, that or urgent treatment centre if you can’t get through to GP

I had sepsis from an UTI during pregnancy, so it’s better to be safe than sorry

It's exactly what it's for (I'm a triage midwife 😊)

And certainly with the level of symptoms you have.

As a midwife I would say to contact your gp again rather than the midwife. It sounds like you need another course of antibiotics. Did the gp send a sample off when you went before?

Definitely get seen and insist on a proper test (my UTI didn’t show up on the stick and I was fobbed off originally but a lab test confirmed that there was a bacteria in my urine and that I need antibiotics). Also my midwife didn’t see me for this and sent me to a GP, but I believe I’m in a very sub standard NHS maternity care trust, I have and would assume this is usually a case for maternity triage.

I am happy to see the GP again but I just can't get an appointment

They didn't send off a sample no only did the dipstick test

That's a shame as sending a sample could have shown exactly what antibiotics would treat it. If you can't get an appt with your gp then it's definitely worth ringing triage. UTIs in pregnancy shouldn't be ignored.
