Marylebone to King's Cross

We're getting the Eurostar tomorrow morning. We (2 adults, a 5yo and a 3yo in a pushchair, with one large suitcase) need to get from Marylebone to King's Cross. Is it madness to attempt to do this on the Underground? We're happy to carry the pushchair, but I'm not sure this is allowed on escalators and I know some stations have a lot of steps. Has anyone done this journey and/ or can advise?

Most tubes have a lift now. Kings Cross definitely does. I think this would be fine. The tube is full of people with buggies and cases, fine if 2 of you.

MarilynBoo · 28/03/2024 09:29

You could get the 30 or 205 bus from Marylebone Road to Kings Cross. Will get you there very quickly.

Lifeinlists · 28/03/2024 09:34

We caved in some time ago and always get a taxi now. For the convenience and lack of stress it's worth it.
It's not that expensive.

Get a taxi.
Seriously .....TAXI 🙂
It's not far so won't cost much. Taxi rank is right outside Marylebone. Tube is not step free from Marylebone/Baker St (next nearest). To get the bus you need to walk to the main road - not far but by the time you have done that dragging everything and waited for the bus - you'd probably be halfway there by taxi.
It's St Pancras for Eurostar - make sure the taxi takes you to the correct side so you have less to walk.

Not so many steps as is underground not tube. It might be easier to go by bus tho, if the traffic isn’t too bad.

Porridgeislife · 28/03/2024 09:40

I commute into Marylebone. Definitely just get a black cab with a buggy, luggage and children. None of the tube options are step free, it’s a horrible walk to Baker St at the moment due to works outside the station, and the bus isn’t that close.

blue345 · 28/03/2024 09:42

There's a big escalator down to the underground at Marylebone plus a few steps. There's also steps down to the circle line at Baker Street if you walk over (about 5 minutes). Platforms 4-6 are also a walk to the barriers at Marylebone.

The bus is near the station as PPs have said or there's a taxi rank outside the station. I'm all for the tube but I'd go by bus or taxi with young kids in tow.

Needmorelego · 28/03/2024 09:43

@Pipeskeepleaking "tube" and "underground" are the same thing. Tube is just a nickname.
The escalator (and steps) at Marylebone down to the tube is a long long one. I've done it with pushchair, suitcase, small child - but only once 😂 Never again! It's a long steep escalator.

Revelatio · 28/03/2024 09:46

Get a cab. You can just wheel the buggy into the cab.

Edited

Are those roadworks still going on? They are a pain in the arse.

Why Kings Cross?

Eurostar is St Pancras. Black Cab will be your best bet as pp's have already stated. Underground is a nightmare with buggy, kids & suitcase.

ballpithell · 28/03/2024 09:53

I'm in London with DC but would def get a black cab in your scenario. You can put the buggy inside the cab with the child inside and the break on if it's a proper black cab. However just factor in extra time for traffic jams.

ballpithell · 28/03/2024 09:54

@Babysharkdoodoodood she obviously means Kings X St Pancras.

ballpithell · 28/03/2024 09:55

Sorry OP, don't know how to edit posts on the app. Typo meant to say put the buggy brake on.

FortunataTagnips · 28/03/2024 09:56

Taxi. It’s a short journey so totally
worth it.

King's Cross is just the short name for King's Cross St Pancras. It's the same station.

colouredball · 28/03/2024 09:59

I would get the bus

So there is King's Cross and King's Cross St Pancras? Because there are definitely 2 stations

colouredball · 28/03/2024 10:03

On a quick google tells me I am silly and the underground station is King's Cross St Pancras whereas the railway stations are King's Cross and St Pancras international

londonmummy1966 · 28/03/2024 10:12

You'd have to change at Baker Street as Marylebone is on the Bakerloo Line and Kings Cross isn't. And its not an easy change at Baker Street as you need to go up to the Circle/Met Line platforms. I spent years lugging a double buggy around London but this is definitely one for a black cab from the Marylebone rank.

Needmorelego · 28/03/2024 10:15

@Babysharkdoodoodood yes the Tube station is shared and called Kings Cross St Pancras.
The actual railway stations are 2 separate ones next door to each other.
St P is for Eurostar.

colouredball · 28/03/2024 10:17

You could also walk it in half an hour or so, which may or may not be an option for you. I would always use the bus as its only 10 minutes so fine to be standing

TurtleMoon · 28/03/2024 10:26

Thanks everyone! I think we'll get a taxi. That was my plan anyway, but then I noticed we had a bit more time to change than I thought so just wanted to check I wouldn't be wasting my money if the tube was super easy!

For those wondering, this is what the Eurostar website says about King's Cross and St Pancras stations - TBH I hadn't realised they were different places and just shared a tube stop, and I have been on the Eurostar before haha!

It's 40 minutes according to Google. I'd do it without kids, but I always take longer than Google says. My 5yo is the world's slowest walker and biggest gaffer, and if he doesn't go on strike halfway there he's likely to whine non-stop. So not an option this time😅
