Asda still not released petrol pre authorisation money

I know petrol stations pre authorise money now from your account if you pay at the pump. I usually go to Tesco & the preaurhorised amount more or less disappears as soon as you fill up

I made the mistake of going to Asda on Sunday and the £99 it took as pre Authorised is STILL showing pending.

Is this a normal time frame? That's 5 days now I haven't been able to access the money. Thankfully I had money I could move from elsewhere to allow me to pay for shopping but not everyone is in that position. How can they justify ring fencing a customers money for so long

Have I been unlucky or is this normal for Asda - Needless to say I won't be going there for petrol again

I had the same issue a couple of months ago. They held the £99 for about a week!

That's really bad, why do they do this. Dd would struggle with this close to her part time job pay day.

I refuse to use pay at pump.
I would rather pay a couple of pence more per litre and not have my money held hostage by a big corporation

Didn't have an option. My petrol light came on when I was arriving at work. Finished at 2am so no garages open. Had to be pay at pump

It must be a real problem for people who don't expect it to get held as long. As I said I'm lucky I had the money elsewhere to move to my current account but so many people won't. Especially a few days from pay day

Gosh this is terrible, complaints need to be made to head office as it's completely unacceptable, especially in today's financial climate.

It's not really ASDA themselves though is it? It's somewhere between their acquirer and your card issuer. It should be quicker than that - so something has got 'stuck'. Have you asked your bank to release the hold from your side?

Asked my bank. They said I need to wait for Asda to release it 🙄

I had this on holiday in France using Monzo. It was stuck for months but Monzo released it as soon as I contacted them. So I'd try again with your bank.

It’s the card issuer that holds the money as far as I know, so they should release it, not the retailer.

Have they taken the correct amount AND the £99? Or just the £99?

To add insult to injury they've taken both amounts

who do you bank with?

It’s the card issuer that needs to deal with it then. Visa and Mastercard pre authorise the £99. Asda then tell them how much they need so that then comes out and the £99 should go straight back in (via Visa or M/Card). Asda have done their bit but the card issuer hasn’t. The bank have said Asda need to release it but that doesn’t make sense..they already have the money they need and have nothing to with the other bit.

If it’s visa it will drop off after 7 days.
the merchant need to remove the authorisation code for it to be soooner than that.
