Vinted postage

Just bought a small glass item on vinted, once committed to buy it showed postage options, to a locker was £2 something, to home was over £5. Why would the home option be so expensive? Never had to pay that much postage on vinted before.

Yeah I was really surprised. Would the seller have set the postage amount? I'm not clued up on how vinted works. It was annoying as it was only visible once I had committed to buy and means I felt I had to go with the locker option when I didn't really want to.

I actually messaged the seller saying postage to home seems pricey, they just replied saying yeah everything is these days!

The seller doesn't set the price but they do set the size of the parcel which determines the price

It depends on the courier. The seller can't set the price, they can only choose which couriers they use. Yodel home delivery for me is cheaper than InPost home delivery, for example. Whereas InPost lockers are cheaper than Yodel store pick up. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

If it goes by size of parcel, why would there be such a big difference in price between locker / home delivery, for the same parcel?

Presumably the bigger the parcel size the more space it takes in a delivery van, home delivery is much more labour intensive as it requires a driver to go to multiple locations to deliver whereas to a locker is one stop. Same concept with shops home delivery eh next delivery, to a store is free but to personally deliver is £4.95

Depends on the courier - if to locker InPost probably deliver but the deliver to home might have been UPS or Evri or even Royal Mail which are more expensive

The seller doesn’t set the postage cost.

Vinted set the postage fee.

Of course drop off to a central locker point is going to be much cheaper than delivery to an individual address.

The courier drops a large number of parcels off to the locker in one drop, compared to driving to individual houses (which takes more time & fuel).

To a locker isn’t free, dunno where pp got that idea from. To a locker is £2.29, to home is generally 70p more.

You could have changed your mind - you're not committed to buy on vinted if you just click 'buy' and change your mind when you see the postage. You just don't pay!
