Anyone else still cutting their own hair post coving?

I've had variations on a bob my whole life (my hair is fine and looks straggly past my shoulders). I never enjoyed going to the hairdressers but never considered cutting my own hair (except for when I had a fringe and it needed a trim).

Covid gave me the chance to learn how to do it myself and I've never gone back. I invested in a good pair of scissors and some thinning shears.

I just cut the length to where I want it, add some layers, thin out the underneath and it's done.

If you do your own, what style do you go for? Do you think you'll ever go back to paying again? I really don't think I ever will.

Me! I haven't been to a hairdresser since pre Covid. I can't really afford it if I'm honest. I have hairdressing scissors and I do a high ponytail chopping thing which I learned on YouTube 😀

Yes, me. I cut a short pixie cut, and enjoyed that until I decided to grow it out last September and now I have a (pretty horrible) “twixie” which I’m deliberately not colouring to get it in good condition and grow to about shoulder length. I’ll never go back.

Nope. I want to learn how to cut my own hair as it would save a lot of money

Yeh its so expensive isn't it! That's a big part of why I haven't been back. I lost count of the number of times I've sat for half an hour, to have the dust taken off the ends and then paid £40 and felt absolutely robbed, I've got other things I need to spend that money on.

Im not saying all hairdressers are a rip off but when you've got fine, straight hair and it's just a simple trim it can feel like it.

Husband cuts mine does that count? Number 2 all over every few weeks and I'm sorted 😊

I’ve n ver really been happy with any cut from a hairdresser tbh. When I do it myself sometimes I’m unhappy, too, but it soon grows out and I haven’t wasted £40.

I think it’s because they look at me and see 60 year old, mumsy, frumpy, safe. Whereas I want edgy, interesting, funky!

Yup, me, my partner and one of our dogs ( only one that needs clipping)

I hate going to the hairdresser, last visit was Jan 23. Currently wondering if I can bob my hair myself....

I have been trimming a little bit off for a few years. I hate the whole hairdresser experience. SIL did an evening course in hairdressing and was cutting mine for a while, but the novelty wore off! Fair enough.

You absolutely can. Cut less than you think you need to, and go for the overall shape you want.

Yes! Costs me nothing and I mostly wear it up, so looks exactly the same. Doing the dc too.

Have pretty much always cut my own hair. Nearly 60, people tell me it looks nice.

Same! Though I’m a bit shit at it and to be honest it’s not particularly straight at the back, but it’s tied up 100% of the time so I can’t see that it makes any difference.

I’ve done it since pre Covid. I get decent hair cutting scissors and trim the bottom then put the top section into a pony tail at my forehead and trim a little off that to give layers. I have curly hair so it’s hard for hair dressers to get it right, they usually do very minimal layers and I get a Christmas tree shaped hair-do anyway so at least I can avoid that. DP talks about “treating” myself to a hair cut as he thinks it’s something all women enjoy and find relaxing but I tell him I’d much rather a facial or wander round the shops with no kids or a long walk than a trip to stare at my own face (and notice way more wrinkles than I realised!) and end up with a less good cut than I’d do myself!

I once cut my fringe which was an absolute disaster so it's a no from me.

I sometimes do my husbands hair but never do my own my hairdresser is really good and doesn't charge too much imo. I used to hate going until I found her.

I used to trim my layers a bit (in between proper cuts) when I had very thick hair, but I wouldn't dare try it now it's thinner. Any mistakes would be so obvious.

I cut my own hair and my teenage daughter's. We have just below shoulder length different styles.

The dog gets her hair cut every 6 weeks for 40.00 🙄. (I would do it she'd let me).

Yep me! Haven't been for a haircut since before covid! I just chop some off the bottom every now and again while it's wet from the shower 😂 It's always in a ponytail anyway so doesn't make much difference. Also stopped dyeing it during lockdown and I've embraced the grey! It's very freeing ☺️

I still cut my dh's hair and I think I do a good job. He has it done every 3 weeks and his barber doubled their prices. I'm not as quick as a professor but he likes it.

He did not do a good covid job on my hair! 😅 I actually went to the hairdresser a few weeks ago, showed a photo (inverted bob) and came out with a mullet. So I sorted it out myself and its the shape I wanted now. But I will go back to a different hairdresser to sort the back out as that's hard for me to do.

I've had variations of the same hair do for years, so I know how to get the shape.
