Urgent! Does anyone know about nhs and emergency leave?

My 2 year old has a sickness bug, normally her dad works from home but today is required to go into office.

I'm band 2 nhs, can't work from home, first time ever calling that's not for me, what happens with having to take emergency leave?

Check your trust policy but usually you get five carers days a year. What you’ve described is caters leave, it will be paid.

I thought it was 5 days or pro rata if part time and unpaid

This counts as carers leave, you’ll be paid.

It's a bit policy and a bit of how nice your manager is. Generally, it's around 5 days as someone has said. You might be able to use annual leave if you have any.

I believe it’s at the manager’s discretion.

Nhs manager here, I’d count it as carers leave. Just notify your line manager the same way you would if you were sick and try and give them an estimate of when you return. Usually only get 1 day of carers at a time as the expectation is you use that day to source alternative arrangements for any subsequent days the child is sick. If you need more time off it’s at managers discretion but I’ve used and authorised for my staff short notice annual leave or unpaid leave or flexi where appropriate.

Dont worry it’s really common

Thank you, my managers not the best, I have only been there 7 weeks so I know how bad it looks.

It's emergency carers or domestic leave. You get 5 days per year (pro rata for part time) just call in and tell your manager. They'll have dealt with this before, you'll still get paid

True, Of course it's necessary, the NHS will and should support you with this!

Yeh it's carers leave and I think it's normally one day-to give you time to source alternative childcare, but as nurseries etc won't take sick kids for 48 hours, it's quite tricky to find someone who will take them after 24. I guess the idea is that both parents take 24 hours each, is that possible?
