Should I be worried about my elderly dad?

I'm a bit of a worrier
My dad is 81
Still active and fit
Does he's own shopping ,goes out with friends ,walks
Doesn't look his age etc
He said recently he's been getting tired around 9pm
Normally he doesn't go to bed till 11.30pm
He's only recently had a full check up at doctors -took his blood, checked for liver /kidney function all fine
Only thing was slightly high blood pressure so he's started blood pressure tablets (not sure if they might be making him tired earlier )
He has no other symptoms or anything
He said he wakes up about 10 times a night every half hour and never gets a full night sleep
Could that be making him tired at 9pm?
No loss of appetite or anything
Is it just Normal age ? Or blood pressure tables ?
Saying that I'm only 38 and I'm knackered by 8pm so who am I to talk

Does he know what is causing him to wake so much? Is it pain or needing the loo, or seemingly random?

Does he snore? Maybe something like sleep apnea.

If he is waking up regularly then that could be causing him to get tired earlier.

Other than that he sounds pretty healthy!

It's his dog
He sleeps in the bed with him and he is in and out the bed every half hour
He won't sleep downstairs as he howls and bangs on the door (the dog not my dad 🤣)
So my dad's got into the habit since he was 2 months of letting him on the bed.

I don't think 9pm is particularly early for someone in their 80s. Although the regular waking needs to be investigated.

Yes and yes

that medicine can cause tiredness and drowsiness during the day time, so if your DF drives a car, he should re think it until he gets more accustomed to the medicine

of course being woken up every half hour would make him tired..thats a no brainer!

What can he do to solve the dog situation? If he isnt getting on with the medicine he can ask the GP if there is an alternative

Well yes, being woken every half hour would mean he was not able to access deep sleep. It drove me to the edge of insanity when I had 6 months old babies.

Sleep does also naturally change as people get older. In very old age some people need to sleep a lot of the day, and this is not necessarily something that needs fixing, or that can be fixed. I wouldn't imagine he is quite there yet though.
