Woke up Saturday morning with a mildly scratchy throat, nothing major. Took DS to his football match and began to feel really poorly, very hot then shivering cold, achy and a huge headache. Went home and went to bed. I have issues with my Eustachian tubes so get a lot of ear pain so figured it was probably an awful ear infection. My throat itself wasn’t sore anymore, it was incredibly painful to swallow but the pain was all behind my ears.
Sunday I felt even worse, struggling to swallow at all. I don’t have a thermometer but could tell I had a fever. DH (who is the most unsympathetic man ever!) offered to drive me to the walk in centre. Saw the nurse and explained that I thought it was an ear infection. By then I was also speaking strangely, really muffled like I had something in my mouth. She immediately said well I can tell you’ve got an infection but I doubt it’s in your ears. Checked ears and they were fine. Checked my throat and she said it’s tonsillitis but where they took my tonsils out over 40 years ago! Have never had any problems since they were removed so this was very unexpected.
My question is (apologies it so long to get to the point!), is it actually tonsillitis if you don’t have tonsils or is it Strep throat?
I work in a school and my class have had 2 suspected cases of Scarlet Fever, plus about 8/9 more with very similar presentation to me. Really really sore throat, high temperatures and nausea. I just wondered if it was somehow all linked? I cannot stress enough that this is way way more than a simple cold/sore throat. I have felt far iller this weekend than I can ever remember.
I know nothing can be done either way. I’m just curious. School have basically said I was being overdramatic when I asked for the last child to be sent home when she fell asleep on the next in class.
