Systemic is the opposite of topical isn't it?

I'm seeing my consultant tomorrow and I'm just practicing what I want to say. I don't want any more drugs that I have to take orally or via injection. I'm hoping this particular problem can be solved with a cream or even minor surgery.

I'd be correct in saying that I'd like a topical treatment rather than another systemic medication wouldn't I?

If it's a cream then yes, that's topical. If it's surgery then that would be surgical rather than topical.

Yes something oral or injected is taken systemically, something applied on the skin is topical.

You’re not wrong to say topical, but if you’re intending to include surgery then maybe what you mean is that you’d prefer localised treatment to systemic. You can then go on to explain that topical and/or surgical would be acceptable

Yes that's right. Topicals are things like creams and ointments etc. systemics are tablets / injections.

PiggieWig · 25/03/2024 19:35

You could use ‘local’

Willmafrockfit · 25/03/2024 19:36

dont worry about the wording, just say what you want to say

Did ik go ok OP?

It did, Thank-you. Topical treatment is on order at the pharmacy. He's done a full review of all my meds but made no changes.

Thanks for all the replies.
