Honestly, do whatever makes you happy! Have you ever tried any makeup techniques to soften your features? I always think something like plastic surgery sounds so final and you may not even like the result x

What’s weird about it? Very confused by your thread title

General anesthesia is more risky when you are older and recovery would be slower. As you get older your body doesn't have the same ability to heal, neither does your brain, post op confusion/delirium or cognitive difficulties would be my main concern.

Would it make you happier? Would it improve the quality of your day to day life? Do you have any health conditions to consider? What do your friends and family think?

Despite being unattractive myself, it's not something I would consider - but we are all wired differently so no judgement on that.

Are you generally content with life apart from this niggle? Or do you think this will solve a wider unhappiness? Changing the way you look is not a cure all solution.

I would certainly want to know that the medical team had experience of working with older patients - so do your research!

64 is not old in the slightest when it comes to having a GA or having surgery

dollymixedup · 25/03/2024 01:44

There are certainly physiological changes as we get older such as muscle elasticity, metabolism, cell turnover and brain mass amongst others. These need to be considered in the clinical management of patients as they can alter responses to medical interventions and interaction with medication. Doesn't mean that a GA is a no go or that surgery won't be successful or full recovery possible.

Obviously we all age at varying rates and even within an individual different systems (nervous, skeletal, circulatory) may not have aged at the same rate. But medically 64 is definitely classed as 'older' - even if the person is active and generally well.

It is also much more likely that someone in their 60's will have an underlying health conditions compared to a 40 year old for instance.

I hope things work out @wavingfuriously - whether you have surgery or not!

It's funny how 'realisations' (of all different types) hit us we get older. Regrets or fantasising about what could have been....
