Leaving present for CM diagnosed with cancer

My lovely childminder has been diagnosed with cancer and is having to close while she has treatment. It's our last day next week and I want to get her something nice to show how appreciated she is. She's about to go through intense chemo and surgery. What should I buy her?

  • Amazon voucher so she can get herself some kindle books or rent films if she needs something restful and low key to do.
  • very very gentle skincare like this moogooskincare.co.uk/products/oncology-cancer-care-pack
  • a beautiful bunch of flowers
  • soft and easy to put on slippers/slipper socks
  • pashmina or lap blanket

I've had a few friends and family members go through chemo and the effects were very different dependant on the type of cancer and type of chemo. Fairly consistently appetite or taste buds were affected so I'd steer clear of foods or drinks.

Try the website not another bunch of flowers. It has some really good ideas.

A subscription to audible if that’s not too expensive?
I have cancer and when too tired to hold a book or watch a screen I find listening to an audio book is just the right thing.

I can't remember the website name but I bought something from it a while back and it has lots of practical things for people going through cancer treatments. I bought an ipad cushion so they could use their tablet hands free. I've just tried to look it up and there's one called not another bunch of flowers and also Macmillan have a range too but I can't remember the specific site I used. It might even just help with ideas

A really thick warm blanket.
My friend got me a ‘positive pants’ badge which I loved.

I was super lucky to be given lots of wonderful things from amazing people, and actually some things were good for the first few rounds then they changed my drugs so different side effects kicked in, but things you could consider in a gift box would include:

  • big bags of popcorn
  • big bags of haribo / jelly sweets
  • malteasers
  • boxes of chewing gum
  • a bracelet that spells out Fuck Cancer in morse code
  • a bracelet that spells out You Got This in letter beads
  • large square silk/satin scarves (for head coverings)
  • boxes of chewing gum
  • nail oil
  • borders chocolate covered ginger biscuits
  • tea pigs in both mint and ginger

I did a colleague a basket, fluffy socks, chocolates, extra long phone leads, a hug stone, a colouring book and pens, some nice handcream, a positive saying keyring, a fiction book, some lip balm and some anti stress oil for pulse points

Excellent ideas thanks guys. I've ordered her a 'you got this' bracelet and going to get her some nail care bits as I know she's particularly worried about losing her nails. Thanks guys, and good luck and strength to those going through treatment atm
