Charity shops are my only friends and I don't mind

Just that really.

I am pregnant with twin girls and after a slight panic at the proce of everyhting, I went charity shop hopping and found so many perfect baby clothes from 50p to £2.

I found a love to dream swaddle bag in mint condition for £1.50 😯. They sell new fpr £27/£30..

I am fully embracing my dull side but I am now only interested in charity shops (and baking, I might be nesting).

It's me, myself and charity shops against the world from now on.

Make me dream, what what you best find in a charity shop for babies (clothes, toys, furniture?).

Most of what I own is from charity shops or second hand in general.

But actually, I’m tiring of only being able to have other peoples old shit now. I do it as I can’t afford new. I’d love to buy something new to wear rather than a cast off on vinted.

I found a brand new puddle suit for DS for £2. Still had the label on for £27! I love a chairty shop. I’m also due a baby (this week actually) and I got lots of lovely things for him.

Where I live there is a baby project called baby basics. It’s aimed at low income families obviously twins are a shock here is a link to their website, they have locations all over the country https://baby-basics.org.uk/other-locations/ they give out items for free that have been donated to them. So if anyone needs items or has stuff to gift they are a good choice. They also have some baby groups and it’s a good place to meet other parents. All free as far as I’m aware.

I love chazzas. Therr are quite a few in my town and I visit one or other 2 or 3 times a week. I'm addicted . My favourites:
Salvation army
Age UK
Hospice shop
Barnardo's
I have notices prices sneaking up over the last year or so though!!

Craftycorvid · 24/03/2024 17:24

I’ve promised myself a bimble around the nearest source of decent chazzas very soon. Where I live the pickings are very slim. I like to take a couple of hours to just mooch and see what I can find. It used to be the case that all my clothes came from charity shops but these days it’s usually eBay. I don’t see any reason to buy new things when you can recycle and it’s more fun when you find something unexpected.

I've always loved charity shops since I was a kid, can't beat the thrill of getting something really good for your money.

HauntedBungalow · 24/03/2024 18:32

Be careful OP. Ime as soon as people know you're pregnant they will foist all their old baby toot onto you faster than you can say "I'm not due for ages and don't have a lot of space".

Decafflatteplease · 24/03/2024 18:32

My wedding dress was from Oxfam! BNWT, ex sample dress, £150 and it was beautiful!

frozendaisy · 24/03/2024 18:39

So much of our kid's stuff when they were younger was charity shop

If there was a bargain (think winter snow jacket 2 yrs bigger) I bought and stored. Must have saved £100s possibly £1000s until they got older and wanted what they wanted to wear.

Weatherproof clothing
Jigsaws
Books
Wellies
Jumpers
Toys

Only things we had to buy, branded school stuff, school shoes, trainers/astro turf, swimming stuff.

Even got (older but they didn't care) team football tops.

Anything we didn't get second hand that they "wanted" we sent suggestions to doting grandparents.

Mostly rubbish I'm afraid.

Is this really true or do you just want to keep everyone away so you can have them to yourself?😂

😂Go and take a look for yourself if you don't believe me. You might just strike lucky!

doneandone · 24/03/2024 18:57

Ah I love charity shops and Vinted. I can't remember the last time I bought new clothes. I buy lots of books too for group that I run for young people and it's saved a fortune (plus great for the environment).

amylou8 · 24/03/2024 19:00

Charity shops are great. My whole wardrobe is charity shop/carboot/vinted. Bras, socks and pants are the only thing I'll buy new now. Less waste is great, but the buzz of a bargain is the best bit for me.

pastypirate · 24/03/2024 19:10

When I was pg with dd1 my dm and I spent hours collecting all the Beatrix potter books in various chazzas. I found lots of baby clothes too and this is such a precious memory as my dm died last year.

Op I completely relate to this post x

BakedTattie · 24/03/2024 19:11

Love charity shops and Vinted! I would say most of my wardrobe is from these places.

got most of my kids baby stuff from car boots too, but we don’t have any good ones near us anymore.

Blackcats7 · 24/03/2024 19:14

The thing to do is visit the poshest towns and villages nearby. Rich people donate better stuff and that makes for great charity shop bargains.

NeedWineNow · 24/03/2024 19:53

Oh I love a charity shop. An awful lot of my wardrobe is sourced from our local ones. I popped in this week and got a really nice short black raincoat which didn't look as though it had been worn together with a great multi colour maxi dress - £13.50 for the two. I tend to head for the charity shops first now rather than the high street.
