Were going to Melbourne and Tasmania soon to see extended family.

We aren't going for ages so haven't got as much time as we'd like to explore but wondering if anyone has hints and tips.

We're likely to visit Healseville in Melbourne

And bonorong in Tasmania (has anyone done the feeding experience? And know which time to go for? Reviews say night is good but morning seems a smaller group?)

We're so excited 😊

That’s a shame you won’t have time. I would dump something else though as it’s so good!
Enjoy your trip. I loved the lanes in Melbourne and the amazing restaurants tucked away there.

Love Healesville. We paid extra to meet a wombat - built like brick! The wineries are amazing and the food is really good.

There are penguins in Tasmania near Bicheno and in the Tasman peninsula. I've even seen a penguin on Blackmans Bay Beach! There used to be a colony on Bruny Island but apparently very few come to their tradional nesting site at the neck -- rabbit's have invaded their burrows and the feral cats don't help encourage them.

This is the Bicheno penguin tour - I did it last year and despite torrential rain, we still saw penguins:

You can also see them in Penguin (clue's in the name) but that's North coast so not viable if you're Hobart based.

Hope you're seeing the wombats at Bonorong and/or Maria Island. Both are fabulous experiences. I fell in love with an echidna called Luigi at Bonorong (I got to hand feed him - super-cute!!!)

Enjoy Tassie!! It's just wonderful.

@AustraliaTrip How was your trip?

Kylie83 · 12/04/2024 01:30

Wow, just thought I would come here and say I live in Tasmania 😄 you will love it here.

AustraliaTrip · 12/04/2024 01:34

Nearly over 😔.

Its been amazing. So many wonderful moments. Loved the Gordon River and all the wilderness, and the drive over there was spectacular. The play was really funmy. Really interested how different the weather on the different sides of Tasmania is with the other side being so incredible wet (rainforests!)
Watched a sunrise from Mt Wellington. Enjoyed salamanca market. Spent time with extended family 😊. The Melbourne trams are brilliant. And the grid system is great. Loved breakfast in degraves. Healesville was so well designed and a wonderful day. Bonorong we had a special tour so got to feed some animals which I think made it. We cuddled up to a wombat too :).

Sounds funny but I love how each area we drove through had a strip and you can just park near a coffee shop and go in. Where I live there's a lot of movement to pedestrianise a ltns and stop people driving through pretty places and made me realise how much I miss out when they close parking. Yet we could park on top of a mountain and enjoy a sunrise, drive into a town and go to a coffee shop without parking and walking a long way. It's very convenient and comfortable and where I have some limited mobility makes a huge difference! Or in Melbourne the ease of trams too.

Loved it all 😊.

I did not love the flight and really am not looking forwards to the flight back. At least on the way here we got to break it up with Changi!

Its unlikely I'll ever do this again so have been really grateful for such a lovely experience.
