Why would a shop refuse a delivery?

Any ideas why a shop would refuse a delivery? I did a click and collect to my local store as I knew I wouldn't be in all day and all the tracking says is that the store refused the delivery and it's being returned?! Wtf? Can't even reorder it as it's now out of stock! I literally never do click and collect but knew I wouldn't be in today so done what I've seen advised "why order when you aren't going to be in" and did a click and collect but now my item is being returned at least if I had ordered it to my address they would have tried a few times before taking it back. Never doing click and collect again, this was also a birthday present which I now don't have and will have to pay more money to get it somewhere else

How big was it? Shop may not have had space.

Probably the van broke down, driver is sick or something. I think it's probably just the way they cancel it once it's already out for delivery. I've had something like that before when the fridge unit on the delivery truck broke. Nothing you can do but order again.

Likely the shop staff found it was actually out of stock when you did the click and collect?

So you put the order in, they go to get it off the shelf and find there aren’t any left, so decline the order because they can’t fulfil it. And update their stock online so it now shows up as out of stock.

I think it was probably the type of click n collect where you order from somewhere online but you can collect it from your local Tesco etc

Damaged in transit? Something spilt all over it or it ripped wide open? Something like that?

OFC couriers also fib their heads off all the time too. He could have just forgotten to drop that parcel, cut that stop to make up time or something like that. They're under huge time pressure.

Standard practice if it’s little corner shop type places. They don’t have the space but want the income for being a “hub”. We’ve got one near us that will only take parcels in if it’s before the usual collection time of the delivery firm and the same day. So try dropping a parcel off at 8pm on a Saturday youve got no chance.

It's not a shop it was very, the website..

I had this twice. Royal Mail were supposed to deliver to a collection point at one shop but instead delivered to another shop down the road. The second shop then "refused delivery" according to the tracking and it was returned to sender. Goodness knows why the Royal Mail man didn't then deliver to the right address, surely the shopkeeper must have pointed it out to him.
They were eBay items and I never did get one of them and got nowhere with Royal Mail.

I would suggest you carefully check the tracking to see if they delivered to the right place.
