Tips for becoming a TA?

any advice on being a good TA? Resources to look at, courses to take etc. currently doing a free one on specific learning difficulties as most jobs I see are around SEND. Currently with a few agencies but work is slow and I’m volunteering at a primary school at the moment for experience.

I know it’s low pay but having the holidays off is hugely beneficial as I have two children.

TIA

Most children with SEN in mainstream will have quite significant difficulties, and it would be useful to have some basics on autistic spectrum behaviour, andmanaging behaviour that challenges (from personal experience) If interested in special school TA (dire pay still but a little better!) Makaton sign language is a VERY useful skill... (watch mr Tumble for starters!)

Also.. safeguarding. I can guarantee if you go to an interview you will need good basic safeguarding knowledge (easy to read online).

Where I am we are crying out for TAs in our Special School . I started in mainstrean as a 1:1 20 years ago, moved over to Special School a year later and am still there. But it's not just an easy fun job with sweet little children... it's often exhausting, sometimes frustrating and hard work. But the kids are awesome and you'll never be bored!
