Seen a job in Sligo, good place to live?

Just that really. I live in the South East England and have done so for almost 30 years, I'm from another European country originally and did live in the South West part of Ireland briefly many years ago. Just tonight I came across a job in Sligo, Ireland and I'm tempted to apply but unsure what Sligo is like. Anyone know it, live there, been there? 🙏🏼

Gosh, so funny - first time I’ve ever seen Sligo being mentioned here! I’m a native and live here now, and I think it’s an amazing place to live in. We have beautiful beaches, mountains etc. The town is relatively small but there are great restaurants and shops. Like everywhere accommodation can be tricky to find but it’s much less expensive than other parts of Ireland. Pm me if you want mire details.

A good friend of mine comes from Sligo. Everytime I mention Sligo to someone from the republic they’re quite surprised I know of the town. I’d love to visit one day. I hear it’s beautiful.

You should move your post to Craicnet board, you'll get more replies.

@KittytheHare thank you! Do you know anything about childcare over there? We have a two year old who will need to go to nursery or a childminder 2-3 days a week. I just wondered if it was state funded? And what's it like bringing up a child there? I'm a bit tired of all the stress of rushing around down here in the SE corner of England, could do with a simpler, quieter life myself but I do want my child to have enough opportunities...

@RadFs It certainly looks gorgeous when you google it. I know the South West of Ireland quite well and that was beautiful too!

Preschool care is subsidised by the government, not sure of rates. The school system is excellent and less rigid than UK in terms of starting age, repeating a year etc. Opportunities for your child are excellent - a wide range of extracurricular activities are available similar to most large cities in Ireland. So popular sports, art and creative activities are all available. Also there are a few excellent beaches, mountains with hiking trails etc. Let me know if you have any specific inquiries. Dh and I have raised our three children here (now all in their twenties) and we honestly believe that Sligo has offered them far more opportunities than if they grew up in a bigger city.

Ohh it’s absolutely beautiful in Sligo! Just research the healthcare. Schools are excellent and the economy is ok… expensive but prob not any more so than England atm.
