@Helpisso do you know what the George michael one is called/where I can watch?

@IntermittentFarting and do you know what the Fleetwood Mac one is called/where you saw it? I am a fan and would love to see it.

Sone great recommendations, thanks, the Bros one sounds like a good call, and nor something I'd have thought of watching.

I love the David Foster one on Netflix. He's a bit of an arse but he's had a very interesting career and produced some amazing artists.

I watched that and it completely made me hate the guy. I suppose I don't forgive him for getting rid of the horns in the band, Chicago. To me, the horn section during the 70's, made Chicago amazing. Chicago during the 80's was the most predictable, cheesiest pop.

My favorite documentary was "Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of our Lives". Clive was far more interesting and definitely more likable.

Marianne and Leonard- Words of Love.

Relationship between Leonard Cohen and Marianne Ihlen , from their meeting in Hydra up to their final days.

@Illbefinejustbloodyfine

It was on iPlayer. I think it was Fleetwood Mac: A Musical History which was originally shown on BBC4 last year.
There's also another, older BBC documentary about them which is highly rated, called "Don't Stop".

Unicorn34 · 22/03/2024 20:06

I'd love to see the Ian Dury one and also the one about Teddy Pendergrass but can't find them anywhere.

TheCatOnMorrisseysHead · 22/03/2024 20:11

I recently watched the one on George Harrison, 'Living in the Material World'. I'm not a huge Harrison fan but I really enjoyed it and it got me into some of his solo stuff.

The Greatest Night in Pop on Netflix is good, and more general than a specific artist. About the making of We are the World in the 80s

jaydess · 22/03/2024 20:29

Spinal Tap

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 22/03/2024 20:34

Flight 666: Iron Maiden. I think it was on sky arts so probably somewhere on now tv if you have it

Turmerictolly · 22/03/2024 20:40

There was a brilliant documentary about Ginger Baker (Cream/Blind Faith) a few years ago. He was a crazy character but drumming genius.

Iamtheoneinten · 22/03/2024 20:48

Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
Amazing ‘rockumentary’ style film. Hilarious, if you’ve ever seen Spinal Tap you won’t believe this is for real, however it is also strangely uplifting too. Highly recommend it.

Yes, this one is great - it's like a spoof, very funny

Geebray · 22/03/2024 21:03

There is a brilliant two part documentary on the Eagles. I've watched it twice, might watch it again now!

Omg the one about Lynyrd Skynyrd! I think it was on YouTube, I had no idea most of them had died in a plane crash, but I came to like their songs after I watched it (I'd stumbled across it by accident and decided to watch)

notacooldad · 22/03/2024 21:28

The Song Remains The Same about Led Zeppelin.
I saw that at cinema decades ago!! I loved it.

NahNeedsGarlic · 22/03/2024 21:29

I second The Dirt Grin
Also Mystify, about Michael Hutchence/INXS

Spinal Tap

Came on here to say this.

No need to watch any other after that.

GellerYeller · 22/03/2024 21:39

@Geebray where can I rewatch the Eagles documentary please? It’s fascinating.

OP, if you have Paramount Plus there are loads of updated episodes of VH1’s Behind The Music. Huey Lewis and Hall and Oates are good ones if you like 80s music.
Also enjoyed the We are The World doc and Miss Americana(Taylor Swift), all on Netflix.
On iPlayer there are some Reel Stories episodes: Dermot O’Leary interviews Pet Shop Boys, Kylie, Noel Gallagher. The Dave Grohl one is particularly good.
The Fleetwood Mac do was on BbC2 recently, maybe try iPlayer?
Channel 5 had a Britpop series that was great too.
LOVE me a music documentary!

Whatineed · 22/03/2024 21:39

Not a documentary focused on the band, but "Mission to Lars" is an absolute delight to watch.

It's about a man called Tom who has fragile X syndrome and wants to meet his hero Lars Ulrich from Metallica. His older sister and younger brother document his journey to achieve his dream.

WhatcomesafteraRainbow · 22/03/2024 17:07

i saw that as a comedy.
what a funny pair!

I came on to say the Bros one.

It’s like a modern Spinal Tap!
