Christening Gift help please!

We aren't particularly close to the couple, just casual friends who we see on occasion. I don't (think) they are particularly religious and so overly religious gift doesn't seem fitting. I feel like everyone will get money boxes, keepsake boxes blah blah.

Any ideas? I'm guessing you don't give money (but honestly no clue - it's been a long time since I went to one!)

What would you like for your little ones?

Any ideas welcomed!

I often give a selection of special books that suit different ages l - children, teens and adult. I try to match them to the recipient and write something meaningful in them.

However the last christening I went to I ran out of time and bought a fairy wand for a 2yo girl. I suspect that was appreciated more!

Looking back, I don't think you can have enough toddler cutlery. I'd buy a set of that.

We generally go for a nice book, nothing too expensive but a nice hardback book of fairy tales / nursery rhymes (depending on the child’s age of course). It’s just a token gift I think, and personally I’d prefer a nice book over all the silver tat they will undoubtedly receive!

We have also done books, classics like a lovely hardback Winnie the Pooh or set of Beatrix Potter, they have always been well received.

Books
Decent children cuterly

If you are not that close to the parents than a smaller gift is absolutely ok.

Nice cutlery is a great idea. I've given the David Mellor set for a gift before. It's expensive but lasts forever. I'm sure there are less expensive alternatives.

Books and a piggy bank are other ones I've done for christening gifts.

Books are always good. We never expected any gifts so anything was a nice surprise.

One of our friends got something printed on notonthehighstreet or similar where she sent them a photo of the church and they printed it aa a stylised drawing with the name of the church, DS's name and the date. That was lovely.
