Anyone ditched Virgin Media for TV and just use broadband to stream TV?

Have had Virgin Media for years as the only reliable TV provider in my area. We have prime and Disney+ subscriptions….sometimes Netflix. To be honest we hardly use Virgin. Thinking of ditching it altogether and just getting super fast broadband on its own…no bundle (I really don’t need a landline thanks very much!). Have a current smart TV….will I miss “proper” TV? I know you can see BBC live on iplayer but what about the other “terrestrial” channels? Anything I should think about before I cut the service?

We have, was a waste of money for us. Having said that, the saving on a just broadband package wasn’t as good as we thought it would be!

The other terrestrial channels all have apps that should be available on a smart TV. I could do without the TV but its easier for us to have it with Virgin as a bundle with the super fast broadband, which I need for WFH. Other providers dont seem to be able to match the speeds.

We ditched most of our virgin package, boxes, phone etc. We now just have the super fast BB. We have Freeview via WiFi and the signal is perfect we get 4k and UHD. We also have Netflix and Now and Amazon.

Okay super…I think we will just switch to the super fast broadband. Its cheaper although not massively so, but should get rid of the ugly TV box and cables and one less remote control to contend with…what’s not to love 😁

We have and it doesn’t bother me. We use sil Disney plus and pay for Netflix and Amazon. I watch a lot less tv than I used to. Our tv is 12 years old as well so we just use fire stick

We got rid of sky and got a Roku stick with all the apps on. Got a good deal for now tv so can still watch sky programmes/films and then just have all the other channels with the on demand apps. Saved us a fortune as sky was upping it to nearly £95 a month

I haven't had a tv licence nor watched 'tv' in years!!! Only streamed from netflix, prime etc. And no I don't watch live tv that u potentially can through prime etc.

I don't miss terrestial tv or bbc at all. Even mum who isn't into the streaming stuff was commenting how boring tv has got just lots of repeats

Sonolanona · 22/03/2024 16:54

Yes we did , nearly 18m ago.
Virgin just kept putting up the price (we had their nice cable), we never used the phone and they refused to give us broadband only.
Went to BT broadband only, got a smart tv and haven't missed a thing.
Having said that BT are now putting up the price so when our contract is up we may well switch back... with me as a new customer (DH was previous account holder) and get their new customer broadband only deal as I do think cable was better and faster.

We have Virgin TV because when we signed up, it was cheaper to get broadband and TV instead of broadband on its own.

We’ve never even plugged the TV box in. With all the paid subscriptions and then Freeview, we don’t need it.

spidermonkeys · 22/03/2024 16:58

I cancelled our package. After lots of back and forth I got broadband for £12 per month!

DramaLlamaBangBang · 22/03/2024 16:58

We have had a problem with Virgin in demand services for weeks. We called them to complain and they offered us £10 compensation. We realised that we were paying a fortune for something we could get for free if we bought a firestick. And their customer services was shit so I feel like not giving them any money for their broadband either.
