Upstairs neighbours

Name changed for this one.

I live alone in a ground floor maisonette with teenage DD. Upstairs neighbours are driving me mad, every evening and morning it seems they are deliberately stomping around in the bedroom right above my bed. It's a god awful reverberating and sounds like some jumping a few times or shoving a metal bed frame around.

On top of this, their small child seems to be constantly crying and screaming day and night. I can hear the mum berating the child sometimes. I know small children cry sometimes but this is extreme. At least once a day, screaming and wailing.

I like to keep myself to myself and honestly these neighbours mostly give me a frosty reception.

Wwyd?

There really isn't anything you can do but move. You have my sympathy. I really struggle with stuff like this. It really impacts my mental health but I know while they could probably be more considerate, rationally they are just living life in a flat. I would really hate it too though.

If you own, look into soundproofing and custom made earplugs. There used to be a great place in Orpington that made these.

been there too- sorry I know how awful it is. I live in a detached house now because of it

Depending on the age of child a once daily tantrum is possibly quite normal! I’m wondering if the bedroom issue is them making a bed/cleaning? My step kids beds are up again a wall so to clean properly around them and change sheets easily I pull the bed out so I can walk all around it. I push it back when I’m done.

My DS is two and he probably has a tantrum at least once per day, sometimes in the night as well. He just got done screaming for a good ten minutes because he wanted an ice cream instead of his lunch. Fortunately we live in a detached house so it doesn't bother our neighbours too much (they do hear his bathroom tantrums though). DD was not like this at all.

I feel sorry for you, I've had upstairs neighbours before and it's so horrible hearing people walking on top of you. I find neighbour noise a lot easier to deal with if I know the neighbours but it doesn't sound like they're very friendly.
