Gift of £50 or so for late 20s woman in work situation

I want to buy a thank you gift for someone who had helped me out in a work situation. I don't know much about her except she is posher than me (not hard!) in an industry that is quite luvvie - think art gallery type job. She is junior-ish so won't have hugely high salary. I was thinking about £50. Flowers too ephemeral and chocolates/biscuits don't seem massively appropriate. What would you send? I don't feel comfortable sending a gift voucher.

Do any of you have daughters this age - late 20s I think? What would they want as a thank you gift that is appropriate to receive from someone in a work situation?

How big a help was it? I’m in that bracket age but unless it was some amazing career saving thing I did, 50 would feel too much if it’s you getting it, I’d be happy with just some chocolates and a thank you

whiteboardking · 21/03/2024 18:35

£50 is too much. £20 feels more in line. Tastes are so personal that a voucher tbh is best

Ineffable23 · 21/03/2024 18:43

I agree £50 would feel a lot in those circumstances.

I tend to think practical luxury is always a good option? So something they can make use of but wouldn't treat themselves to.

I think chocolates/biscuits/wine are good for work presents, as not too personal. Something like these from Biscuiteers maybe?

I was just going to say something similar. Or a voucher for an online cake/brownie company (or perhaps a local deli) that she could use at a convenient time. You could attach it to an email of thanks, or print and put it in a card.

Supersoakers · 21/03/2024 18:53

Chocolates wine and a Zara voucher?

Legoless · 21/03/2024 19:15

I had wondered about biscuiteers - it’s quite a nice gift she could share round the office but keep the box if she liked it isn’t it

I would be horrified if someone wasted £40 on biscuits for me
biscuiteers is really naff

LawrieForShepherdsBoy · 21/03/2024 19:29

I think the best thing is don’t over think and just do it quickly. I also agree that £50 is too much. Biscuiteers is a good idea. Maybe really good chocolates like Neuhaus. But mainly just do it soon with a nice hand written card.

converseandjeans · 21/03/2024 19:54

I would say John Lewis voucher & bottle of champagne 🍾

lavagal · 21/03/2024 20:07

Nice scented candle and a well meaning card - at that age they were a luxury I couldnt always afford

caringcarer · 21/03/2024 20:10

My adult DC all love an Amazon voucher because they can put them towards so many different things.

Revelatio · 21/03/2024 20:11

I’d hate biscuits. Does she drink? Champagne is always nice, and she can always regift it. Flowers or a pot plant is a nice idea.

Hotgirlwinter · 21/03/2024 20:14

I wouldn’t go with the posh biscuits unless you specifically know it’s the sort of thing she’d eat or appreciate because they are super expensive and they’re gone very quickly. Someone sent me a box for a bday and I really wasn’t that impressed. I’ve had nicer biscuits from a packet!

Id probably go for a neutral smelling posh candle, something like lemon or vanilla and a bar of luxury chocolate. Personal but still generic enough that most people would find some enjoyment in them.

WashableVelvet · 21/03/2024 20:24

Lovely chocolates, more expensive than she would buy herself, and a thank you card with a proper message in. £20 not £50!

BeaLola · 21/03/2024 20:25

What about a lovely posh notebook or pen case ?

Depending on taste I'm thinking notebook from Rifle papers , Katie Leamon or similar

RedCarWithDice · 21/03/2024 20:29

They look nice but taste terrible. Don't waste your money there

shakeitoffsis · 21/03/2024 20:37

Jo malone candle

lochmaree · 21/03/2024 20:38

gardening vouchers - the national garden gift ones

Bearpawk · 22/03/2024 08:18

Late 20s, a dyptique candle will probably hit the spot

Workingmytickettoparadise · 22/03/2024 08:23

A posh tote bag from somewhere like The London Review Bookshop ( You can buy them online) and a nice notebook ( try TK Maxx).

tealgate · 22/03/2024 09:31

Papier notebook, gorgeous art book, Diptyque candle, turtledove gloves, couple of bottles of nice wine in a box from a proper wine merchant,

Rosesanddaisies1 · 22/03/2024 09:44

Sorry but spending £50 a bit weird. I'd feel very uncomfortable if someone at work did that, unless I was leaving. Get a bottle of something nice if you know she drinks alcohol.

Precipice · 22/03/2024 09:49

What's the drinks situation for this job? If you don't have free coffee and she drinks it but buys it from outside, you could get her a voucher for whatever she uses.
