I see ads for Temu all the time on all my devices.

The thing is a really really like some of the clothes that get flagged up. And I don't see them anywhere else.

Is it worth the risk?

Has anyone bought fomr them and had success? Is it a case of order 4 things and hope one is ok, and the total is OK for the sake of one peice you like?

All experiences welcome.

Temu uses prisoners in concentration camps belonging to an ethnic group (Uyghurs) who they are currently genociding to bring down costs.

There was another thread about Temu a few days ago.

I've used temu , things are hit and miss , make sure you look at the photos on the reviews as you get a better idea of what the clothing really looks like

I am very familiar with the Uyghurs situation, but I didn't think that Temu's stuff was from China?
Do you have any evidence of that?

Don't think it's worth the child labour tbh

Spirallingdownwards · 21/03/2024 12:14

It is a Chinese data mining site so avoid.

Justbecausethefirsttimewehadanenormouscrowd · 21/03/2024 12:14

I think both shein and temu post on here for publicity. It's all shite

Toooldforthis36 · 21/03/2024 12:16

Highly likely to be exploiting some poor sod in the supply chain.

Temu is a Chinese company.

From a two second Google:

https://www.which.co.uk/news/article/what-is-temu-and-is-it-safe-to-buy-from-a7BUb4k5fBFH

A Congressional report published in the US in June this year warned that 'there is an extremely high risk that Temu’s supply chains are contaminated with forced labor'.
**
The report said Temu admitted it ‘does not expressly prohibit’ the sale of goods from the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region in China. Since 2017, Chinese authorities in Xinjiang have detained an estimated one million Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslims in ‘re-education camps’, and it’s believed that hundreds of thousands of ex-detainees are living in forced labour camps.
**
Temu told the US Congress that it 'conducts no audits and reports no compliance system to affirmatively examine' whether its suppliers are observing US forced labour law - which blocks imports from Xinjiang.

Temu is owned by PDD holdings, which is in China:

https://selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/selectcommitteeontheccp.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/fast-fashion-and-the-uyghur-genocide-interim-findings.pdf

"Although our investigation remains ongoing, we have learned that Temu is responsible for millions of shipments that are sent to the United States each year through a network of tens of thousands of sellers on its online marketplace.
However, Temu does not have any system to ensure compliance with the Uyghur
Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA). This all but guarantees that shipments from Temu containing products made with forced labor are entering the United States on a regular basis, in violation of the UFLPA."

I've used Temu lots of time for crafting bits. I pay with PayPal. Never had a problem, items always arrive as described.

So I have found the other thread and it is an interesting read.
For anyone else it is here:

One thing I find interesting is the constant claim that M&S and Zara and Amazon all use the same suppliers as Shien and Temu.

But I am convicned enough not to use them. I just wish I could find the same clothes elsewhere. they were a bit different, a bit quirky and I don't really like standard high street stuff.

I might try a reverse picture and see if they are being sold anywhere else.

Thinking I'm being more ethical not buying from Temu. But I keep seeing identical items for sale...

I have bought some fantastic rose quartz items, some big packs of coloured craft paper, laundry basket, large flip-top bin, big canvas plant containers, and a Ganesh dreamcatcher - all arrived safely, no problems, a fraction of the cost if I bought elsewhere. I wasn't aware of uyghurs issues when I bought. Not sure if I can trust what US says about China though
