Does anyone have a Vauxhall Mokka?

I was wondering if anybody who has one could tell me what they are like - any good?

My car has totally died and I need another car asap. The local garage has one, so I was wondering what people's experiences are with them. This one is a 2017 1.4 and any info would be gratefully received.

I had one as a courtesy car and found it very clunky but you might love it. The only way to find out is to test drive it.

I had one. I had a Mokka X elite nav 2017 plate. Agree not the smoothest drive but I loved that car. I like being high but it’s still a smallish car. I could fit my dog cage in the boot it ticked all my boxes. Didn’t cost me anything either by way of repair bills so reliable. I love the new mokka

citrinetrilogy · 19/03/2024 14:47

Thanks, we are going to test drive it later today hopefully, and anything I can learn in advance is really helpful.

I wouldn't touch. When dh worked for Vauxhall they were the worst for faults.

Telomeres · 19/03/2024 14:49

I had one and it is quite a heavy drive, takes forever to get up to 70.

2Orangesandlemons · 19/03/2024 14:50

Smaller inside than they look. If you have car seats it only comfortable fits 2 in the back. Boot is quite big. Dash lights come on and off a lot for no reason. No spare tyre. Not bad on petrol though. Overall they aren't a bad car.

Capybara95 · 19/03/2024 14:51

It maybe depends on what you were driving before but I have a 2017 mokka and love it. I find it really spacious and think the boot space is really good but I moved from a small car to the mokka and it is usually just me in it so could be the difference.

Capybara95 · 19/03/2024 14:52

As @2Orangesandlemons though with dash lights. My tyre pressure sensor is broken so although tyres are at the correct pressure the light stays on

I find all Vauxhalls like this. They are very popular cars though so maybe it's just me.

citrinetrilogy · 19/03/2024 14:54

Hmm. We do need large boot space, but I'd also like something nimble that gets a shift on when I ask it to.

Historically I've mostly had Fords.

This isn’t the car for you then.

I drove my friends back from Cornwall and it was heap of shit.

blimmy · 19/03/2024 15:19

I've not had a Mokka but I did have a succession of Vauxhall cars and I presume they are made from the same parts. I had a Zafira and 2 Merivas and honestly would never have another Vauxhall. As PPs have said they are clunky, not powerful and once one thing goes wrong with them you're just paying out over and over again for faults. The lack of power is incredible - you just can't accelerate quickly when moving onto a motorway for example, and there is a particular hill that I used to get cold sweats when approaching cos the power would drop so badly that I'd be chugging up it at 15mph when the speed limit was 60!!
I got a (used) Nissan Qashqai about 18 months ago and absolutely love it. It's very smooth to drive, accelerates really well, has a large boot and fits 5 adults/teens in comfortably ( so I imagine would be fine with multiple car seats). I would suggest looking at something like that instead, but would not touch a Vauxhall again if it was free!

Don't sit on the fence, tell us what you really think. 😂

I have a 2016 1.6 Techline model and it is brilliant.

Over 35 years I have had 7 cars of which 5 have been Vauxhalls and they have all been great. Low repair bills and just keep on going.

Telomeres · 19/03/2024 16:55

That's what I had. A 1.6 tech line and it was so thirsty! Then the engine literally blew up...

citrinetrilogy · 19/03/2024 17:32

Thanks everyone, I can report back to say that we didn't even go to that garage, but went to another one and found a 1.4 Fiesta with really low mileage for its age and reasonably priced, so I'm test driving that when I have more time tomorrow, but I have pretty much made my mind up already.

I had the old Mokka and now have the new one.

My old one was second hand, had barely done any miles (think it'd done around 15000 when I got rid) and I'd had to have it at the garage twice. Loved how high it was and I really liked the seats in it. Someone else I know had the old Mokka and they had issues with theirs too.

I've got the new Mokka now, it's not as high as the old one and I don't like the seats as much but it feels a lot more spacious and it's a better drive.

I had the Crossland in between the Mokkas and that was a nice car too.

Out of the 4 Vauxhalls I've had the old Mokka was the only one I've ever had problems with (touch wood) but I did love that car.

If it has an Eco boost engine with a wet belt then run for the hills - there are known problems with them and when your engine goes boom, Ford will do nothing. Check the groups on Facebook, it's been on BBC Watchdog too.

I just checked on some website about which years to avoid, so thanks for the tip. I think this one is in the clear.
