Anxiety

Does it make anyone else feel absolutely pathetic? Recently I have a toothache, I haven't had a dentist for 4 years and my teeth have deteriorated a lot. The whole side of my face is currently in pain.

I went to a dentist appointment today provided by 111 and he wanted to do an extraction or root canal there and then. What did I do? I had a panic attack and cried, despite being in pain 😆(sorry cant seem to delete that emoji).

He has referred me to have treatment with sedation, but I didn't used to be this crap. Sigh.

Don't be so hard on yourself. If you have constant pain, that will reduce your resilience, as will a mild infection in the background.

If you haven't managed to go to a dentist in four years, that probably means you are either overly busy or you are stressed, which won't help either.

Cut yourself some slack.

I did exactly the same OP. I had a voicemail yesterday concerning my sedation appointment and I need to call back to book a day that suits me. Now I feel I'm going to hold off calling because I'm so nervous. I've got a massive hole and broken tooth that has been giving me pain for the last year. I've been filling it every few days with a home kit.
You're not alone. I'd never minded the dentist but had one bad experience before this tooth broke and have been not wanted to go back since

I also agree to cut yourself some slack. You are addressing it now. It isn't going to be pleasant but just try and stick with it and get your teeth sorted and then the pain will improve.

My anxiety is related to cost. There are no NHS dentists in my area. Original practice went private.
Couldn't get an emergency dentist appointment through 111, given several fake referral numbers until told pain no longer a factor, just obvious swelling.
Eventually got a private appointment, difficult as no spaces, £90. Advised to get a root canal, cost £1000 Temporary filling was done.
The total cost privately of sorting teeth, hurts to eat certain foods, clean them, is about £7000

You don't have to see a dentist in your area, you can go anywhere . Try phoning further afield , or see if a relative has a NHS dentist and combine a visit and treatment .
