What do you do for a little break during the day that isn't going on your phone?

This tends to be my go-to and I'm not sure I know any other way to relax! 😬

But the phone/computer can be a bit addictive. So I have this unhelpful tendency to either sit down on PC and then get drawn into it for too long, or avoid it (because of the fear of this) and then just sort of get into a - OK next thing - OK next thing - OK next thing and then I'm exhausted.

I feel like there must be a better way to balance?

I do have young children but they are also at childcare for some of the day so it's not like I'm totally overrun.

When I WFH I do pomodoro on YouTube which gives you a 5 minute break every 25 mins. My desk is in my daughter's room so I've been doing 5 mins of decluttering the last week.

Have a book on the go and read a few pages.
Go for a walk
Bounce on mini trampoline for 1 song
Watch a bit of tv that can easily be picked up and put down. I like sweet magnolias on Netflix atm for a gentle series that I can watch 15 mins of.

I have a little list on my phone of different activities I could do to relax, I just do whatever the top one is, then move it to the bottom of the list.

E. G. Read. Watch tv. Text someone. File my nails. Enjoy a cup of tea.

That's not to say I don't ever go on my phone. I've just wasted 30 mins of nap time scrolling.

I often have a jigsaw out on the coffee table and sit down and do that for a little while as I have the same issue as otherwise I find the same and end up on my phone.

I go downstairs and give the dogs a fuss, and sniff their biscuity ears.
If they are up for it, we have a room in the garden, with a bit of tennis ball chucking.

I’ve also started subscribing to a weekly news magazine and keep it in the snug. I really enjoy sitting down with a cuppa and reading an article or review.

I’ve got 300 summer bulbs to plant, so I might do those in a few batches this week.

Depends what I'm doing and how I'm feeling etc but some are:

  • Watch something on TV or Netflix.
  • Spend a few mins on DuoLingo (I'm learning a new language and practising one I am rusty at). This is on my phone but purposeful at least!
  • Read a book/newspaper/magazine.
  • Do some stretches and listen to the radio.
  • Put an exercise video on YouTube on the telly and copy along.
  • Nap!
  • Paint my nails.

Knit a couple of rows

Read a couple of pages of my current book

Write a meal plan & shopping list

Check through my diary and write a list of things I need to do soon (birthday presents & cards to buy, etc)
