Is anyone else hot during the day but really cold at night?

I am really hot during the day, even in winter. I have to wear vest tops all year round. My mum thinks it's menopause but it's never random and I don't get hot flushes, I'm just hot. It's always triggered by something. Just getting dressed in the morning makes me hot and sweaty. Any small amount of exertion like sweeping the kitchen floor, walking upstairs or emptying the dishwasher makes me hot and sweaty. I can stay hot for half an hour or for several hours and I can't put the heating on a lot of the time, even when the temperature in the house is as low as 13 degrees. However, if I'm sedentery for a while, I get very cold. Although sometimes, 5 minutes after putting the heating on, I am so hot I have to turn it off again. Even walking to the local shop is impossible for me because I will have to shower and change when I get home as my clothes are soaked with sweat.

I also get really hot when going from a cooler place to a warmer place, even if the temperature difference is not that much. For example, I can be a perfectly comfortable temperature but then I go out into the garden for 10 seconds to put something in the bin. When I go back into the house, even if the heating isn't on, I get so hot and sweaty that I have to stand in front of a fan until I cool down.

Shops are a nightmare for me because of the heat. I'm wearing a vest top and sweating but literally everyone else is wrapped up in jumpers and thick winter coats. I've only needed to wear a coat once this winter and I rarely need to put the heating on in the car. Even spring is unbearable for me as it warms up. I cannot stand being in the sun as it makes me feel so hot, even at low temperatures in early spring or autumn. When I have to go out in the summer, I have to find shade or go indoors as soon as I get there.

Contrary to this, at night I get so cold that I have to wear three layers of clothing. I have to use a 15 tog duvet all year round. During autumn, winter and early spring, I also have 5 blankets on top of the duvet. If I don't have these, I am shivering all night and can't sleep. When it's really cold I also have to have a hot water bottle. As soon as I get up and start moving around or get dressed in the morning, I'm hot again.

To an extent, I've been like this all my life but it has got significantly worse over the last few years. If it's relevant, I am 46 years old. I was told by the person who diagnosed me with ADHD that temperature regulation can be a problem if you are neurodivergent. I just wonder why it just keeps getting worse. I absolutely dread summer, especially with climate change making it warmer.

Someone please tell me there is a cure or something which can reduce the symptoms, as I can't stand the thought that this is going to keep getting worse. I have mentioned it to my GP before but she told me it's anxiety. I do suffer with anxiety (officially diagnosed) and I do get hot when I'm particularly anxious so I am aware when this happens and I know this isn't the cause.

I don't have much in the way of useful suggestions I'm afraid but just posting on here as I sympathise, that must be awful for you and quite stressful to live with. I am surprised that your doctor has just fobbed you off with 'it's anxiety' and has not delved deeper to obtain a proper diagnosis for you as it sounds as it is impacting your life quite a bit. Are you drinking water regularly and wearing cotton clothing as those two things may help. I'd also go back to my doctor and get my thyroid checked out as it could be related to your symptoms.

I probably don't drink as much as I should. I wear cotton clothing.

I have an underactive thyroid but it is checked every year and is managed with medication. The same GP who said it was anxiety actually reduced the dosage of thyroid medication in case it was that which was causing me to be hot. It didn't help. I think I will go back to the doctor's though as it is definitely having a massive effect on my life.
