Commuting from Waterloo/Clapham Junction to near the City of London (Bank/Monument/Tower Hill area)

Hi,

I'm just wondering if any Londoners or commuters would be able to please advise me on the best way to get from Surrey to my office, which is near the Bank, Monument and Tower Bridge tube stations. I would be coming from either Clapham Junction or Waterloo, also have options to switch at Richmond.

I've seen there is the Waterloo & City line which is only 4 minutes so definitely do-able, but I've heard it's always heaving in the mornings. There are lots of other options too including the Northern line and Jubilee line.

Just wondered if anyone had any suggestions or advice?

Thank you

Have you played around with the Citymapper app or website to see suggested routes?

Waterloo and city is so quick. That’s why it was invented. It doesn’t matter if it’s busy, just jump on and pack in! There will always be other options and it will depend on the day. Google maps will give you a great route in the morning and it’s in real time do takes into consideration any closures or last minute problems.

I’d walk if you have time. A much better way to start (and finish) the day. It doesn’t take long if you get a move on.

Tower Hill isn't that close to monument or bank.

Aside from that the waterloo &city is fine. Very busy but is frequent. Northern line also goes to monument / bank.

Bloody hell. Despite the name i've never ever twigged that the Waterloo and city line links Waterloo and the city! Thanks mumsnet

Waterloo and City, without a doubt. It’s busy at peak times but very self disciplined with nearly everyone being regular commuters - hardly any tourists being confused or carrying luggage. It’s very quick and no danger of you missing a stop or fighting to get off with others blocking the door - everyone gets off.

PonyPatter44 · 17/03/2024 21:54

I'd just jump on the Waterloo & City line. Every route into central London is heaving in the mornings! It's not a horrible walk, either - about 40 minutes.

Bank / monument are about 30mins hoof from Waterloo, an easy walk along the south bank then over one of the bridges (Millennium / Blackfriars / Southwark) depending where you need to get to. I would do that on a decent weather day.

If pissing down the Waterloo & City line is fast and they’re frequent so you’ll get on one reasonably quickly if not immediately.

Either way, I would go directly into Waterloo rather than fart around at Clapham or any of the other tube lines.

One stop Northern Line north to Embankment, then District/Circle to Tower Hill. But I get a Santander bike and cycle it!

Thank you everyone, it seems like the W&C line is probably the best bet. I'll definitely consider walking it on the way home to see what the walk is like

Waterloo and City seems like a packed horror at rush hour, but it’s really well organised and you’ll be through the queue in 5-10 mins. I commute in from Surrey to the City - go into Waterloo then take Waterloo and City. It’s the quickest way, and I’ve tried out a few options.
