I think I've actually dulled my brain (and body probably) from being addicted to my phone.
I'm going to have a day where my mindless screen time will be less than 1hr. I'm not including work, WhatsApp or tv in this.
My focus today will be -
Going for a walk (in the rain if I have to)
Doing some work and cleaning/laundry
Interacting with kids
Reading a book

Anyone welcome if they'd like to do the same, have some tips or generally despair at our phone addiction.

I've started reading a book in bed and I've really noticed by brain being less jumpy - which is actually quite terrifying.

I’m here for it.

last few nights I’ve been charging my phone downstairs overnight, so I’m not on it last thing at night and first thing in the morning. I think it’s helping.

Things I do religiously:

  • Leave my phone downstairs overnight
  • Have a designated spot for my phone when I'm spending quality time with my kids
  • Leave it in another room during meals etc
  • Turn my phone off over the Christmas break and have a complete digital detox. I usually struggle with turning it back on. My record for having it off is probably about 6 weeks. I'm quite all or nothing.

My husband and I have a screen half hour after the kids are in bed where we can both decompress, scroll at will and not feel obliged to talk to one another or do chores. It's nice.

However I feel I'm on it too much day to day. It's my escapism when life feels monotonous or overwhelming. When my toddler is being completely unreasonable or I just want to escape my reality for a while. It's what I'm doing now. I could be reading, just sitting and enjoying the feeling of the sun on me, playing with my 5 year old, doing some chores which no doubt need doing. But no, I'm on scroll patrol. It's unnervingly addictive. I worry about the effect on my young children to see these devices in our hands so often. Can't be sending a positive message.

Thanks for all the tips and it's good to know I'm not the only one addressing this!

So far so good today. I haven't managed to read yet as it's been a busy day but hopefully I'll do that instead of being on my phone in bed!
