No holiday.

I don't know how to keep them entertained. 2 weeks off. Everything's so expensive too.

I miss the days I could pack a picnic and go to the park to feed the ducks and they'd be so excited 😭😂

Half term isn't until May/june, weather should be better by then. The Easter hols aren't half term

OK, I didn't mean half term. I meant Easter holiday which is in 2 weeks, which I'm pretty sure you know.

1 × cinema and McDs
1x cat lounge
1x day trip to grandparents
1x trip to castle ( I get free entry) for cake
1 x bowling with friends
Probably do another local day out to something free
Rest of the time just chilling out around the house

12yo DD is learning about the Crusades so we're going to Leicester on the train to go to the Richard III car park thing. We are having 2 nights away at the seaside at the end of week 2, costing less than £100 a night (there are 6 of us). Easter weekend she is organising an egg hunt for younger extended family members. We're also going to watch a local ladies' football match which is about £3 each. Oh and a Taylor Swift tribute act 😂We will probably meet up with another family with matching aged children so the older ones can mope about slagging off their parents somewhere scenic and National Trusty before accidentally enjoying themselves on the monkey bars.

I suggest that you don't "keep them entertained". They don't need to be constantly fed entertainment. Do they have any suggestions themselves? Don',t they just think it's nice to have some time off?
They might still like to feed the ducks.

NuffSaidSam · 16/03/2024 09:37

I'd just leave them to it mostly, surely they're old enough to make their own plans with friends etc.

Something like an escape room, treasure trail or board game cafe could be a good day out.

Cinema or theatre.

A hike.

We haven't done anything in the last few holidays, probably the last 3.

Combination of no money and illness.

So I think they deserve a few trips out.

And also if I don't they'll just turn into little bats and sleep all day and game all night 😂

How about watching films all day and make your own popcorn? Experiment with different flavours.

Have a bake- off with friends.
Trip to seaside cafe.
Museum and McD.

herecomesthesun24 · 16/03/2024 09:41

By that age they pretty much entertain themselves. Meet up with friends in town & have a Starbucks. May have a sleepover here or at a friends.May go by bus to the local city for a shopping trip or cinema with their friends

See some family friends / family in a weekend that we don’t normally get to see due to sports fixtures /homework.

Hopefully they will do some revision as exams after the hols

Am hoping they will do some cooking too to develop some life skills!

dorisandboris · 16/03/2024 09:41

Well, what are you interested in? What does your dc like to do? Give us some more info so that we can help with suggestions.

DarkForces · 16/03/2024 09:43

My dd is 12. Dh and I work full time so just facilitate lifts to friends that she organises to meet up with. She's getting pretty good at organising things

herecomesthesun24 · 16/03/2024 09:47

Surely your DC are the best people to ask what they would like to do @ItsVileReally

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 16/03/2024 10:13

We are doing

Stratford
the globe
bletchley park
hampton court palace for the kitchens

then a few seaside and zoo trips

i will also be a taxi for friends and them

reluctantbrit · 16/03/2024 10:19

Cooking and baking together

We normally have at least one day to look at Summer clothes and make plans for what is too small/worn out.

If we both work then DD has to fend for herself for 4 days and we do something on my day off and the weekend.

Trip somewhere where I take a friend, cinema, bowling and lunch (the only time I am willingly paying for Nandos), I can then drop them off and collect.

If the weather is decent, a zoo.

Luckily DD still enjoys being outside if there is plenty of things to do and we have NT memberships.

RunningLondon · 16/03/2024 11:06

Board game cafe one day,
cinema trip
Lots of taxiing them around to their mates houses

I work FT so don’t get the hols off and they are 17 (next month) and 13 so they are used to amusing themselves

VegetablesFightingToReclaimTheAubergieneEmoji · 16/03/2024 11:15

Oh few more
ikea - mostly for the meatballs
Massive asian supermarket - mostly for the noodles

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 16/03/2024 11:53

I spent the holidays with my mates at that age.

Starbucks
Cinema
Bowling/arcades
Hanging around the park
Hanging around the shops
Hanging around each others' houses
Local outdoor pool when we had warm days

Maybe we'd have the odd trip to the beach, theme park or zoo if someone's parents were off work and willing to drive us.
