I’ve got this awful virus that everyone seems to have at the moment and have lost my appetite for real food.

I’m in need of a snack and not sure what to eat. I usually manage ice cream but had that for lunch!

thinking maybe rice pudding? Any suggestions for comfort food?

Not quite the same but my hangover go to when I was a young woman was a family sized quiche (Lorraine) and salt and vinegar crisps washed down with icy diet coke. Unless I was hungover from drinking JD and coke- then it was icy lemonade- cheap supermarket stuff all if it from Costcutter round the corner.
Now I'm middle aged Ice cream, Greek yoghurt and frozen raspberries are my go to things if I have a sore throat- and R White lemonade lollies. If my throat is OK loads of strong tea and toasted thick sliced white bread with real butter (Kerrygold) and strong cheddar cheese sliced thinly. Trifle goes down well too for afters.

I had an operation recently and I only had an appetite for chicken broth when I came back home. My favourite was chicken stock with a few coins of ginger, a smashed garlic clove, sliced up spring onions, a wee bit of fish sauce, juice of a lime and some sliced Thai chillies. I lived on it for the first few days. Really light and nourishing.

Depends what type of ill, but:

Heinz tomato or beef & vegetable soup
Icy cold ginger ale
Mashed potato with ketchup and/or sour cream
White pita bread & butter

I remember a Force-10 hangover in my 20's where the only cure was a pineapple milkshake & hot chips drowned in soy sauce. The heart wants what the heart wants.

Meadowfinch · 16/03/2024 02:42

Home made veggie soup. Warm comforting, hydrating, loads of vitamins. 🙂

I didn’t eat anything for two days except ice cream and milk with honey mixed in. I had a bad fever for two days, I also completely lost my voice, first time ever.

After that chicken soup, vegetable soup bread and butter, salad and tinned peaches. To drink ginger tea made with fresh ginger, orange juice and slightly warm water, hot lemon squash.
