Hi. I’m due next week and I recently found out I’m group b strep positive but I can still have my water birth if things go well as they use waterproof dressings for the antibiotic drip. Anyone with group b strep how did your labours go? Did you have your water birth if you wanted one? I’ve been told that they are stricter on the time they allow labour to go on for especially if waters break as risk of infection increases. I don’t want a c section but sometimes I know they are necessary which is fine as long as my baby is safe and I’m able to have a good recovery lol

I did. Had to get out though when waters broke and there was meconium. No issues at all with having the drip in. They said I could still have a water birth with my second but they arrived so quickly I barely made it to the hospital 😂

I did, had the IV thing in my hand that I tried to keep out of the water as much as possible but I think it did dip in a little bit and it was fine. My girl was born in the water, thankfully all went smoothly

Thanks for letting me know that you both were able to have waterbirths and they went well. I hope my hospital has the waterproof dressing so I don’t have to worry about the cannula getting wet lol

How many weeks pregnant are you? The GBS tests aren’t accurate unless done within 2-3 weeks of your due date as GBS is transient (ie comes and goes).

I was found to have it at c24 weeks but when I retested (privately) at 37 weeks it had gone. The hospital policy was to treat me as if I still had it but I refused the antibiotics and had a lovely water birth. Out of abundance of caution they kept us in for 24 hrs afterwards to observe the baby but we were both fine.

There are disadvantages to pumping you and the baby full of antibiotics so I wouldn’t blindly accept it unless you were satisfied that it was actually necessary.
