So I live a lovely life, abroad in the sun, got a part time job that I really enjoy, a lovely husband and lovely adult DC.
BUT..............
I was out with friends yesterday and realised that apart from work I had nothing to say.
I have got into an awful habit of of coming home from work , eating dinner then watching TV/ Ipad. Then bed.
Even on my days off Im just vegging in front of a screen.
Im 51 and definitely in menopause. I am on some pretty strong pain medication for arthritis. I know that I need to make a change , possibly take suppliments ?
So Im going to start exercising again , limit my screen time, spend more time outdoors.
Has anyone lost their spark then found it again ?

Watching for motivation as I, similar age, am menopausal and arthritic and do nothing except work and scroll!
I’m generally too knackered and sore to do much so I really have nothing going on in my life. I need to do more!

Sort of. Life has really ground me down in the last few years (work, family, kids, blah) and I became absolutely desperate for something that was just for me to enjoy.

I've picked up a couple of hobbies which I really love, and which has made me feel more interesting and vibrant and just, a bit more than I was before.

Also read, watch films, theatre, meet people. That all helps keep the conversation going I find.

My goodness. I could have written that word for word! I just cannot be bothered to socialise anymore. When I do I just find myself wanting to be at home. Other peoples opinions give me the rage. It must be an age thing 🤣

Newyearoldhair · 15/03/2024 16:21

Glad its not just me ! A friend has suggested that B12 suppliments might help so Im going to give that a go. And maybe try Pilates or Yoga?

Yep very similar to you. I made my life bigger by playing in a band and getting a more interesting job. is there something you’ve really wanted to do?

NineofPopes · 15/03/2024 16:27

Cut out TV entirely, unless there’s a specific programme you’re dying to see. Fill the former TV time with interesting things, not just exercise.

HoodieStruggles · 15/03/2024 16:28

Can you get out in your down time and explore? What's within 2 hours drive/public transport/flight from you that you can do in a weekend? Start having some adventures.

Whataweirdsituation · 15/03/2024 16:30

ME! Except I’m in my 20s and lost my spark when I had DS 4 years ago 😭 Hoping I get it back but for now work/solo parenting has me in a vortex. No advice but solidarity! And I’m enjoying reading the tips x

Marsayla · 15/03/2024 16:33

I don't have the answer, but going to the cinema instead of just watching TV is a relatively easy tweak. It always makes me feel a bit more alive than just sitting in front of the TV.

I think when we are nearly out of the winter our mind and body feels quite weary. Unless we are aged 20 and in peak condition. Lol.

SheepAndSword · 15/03/2024 16:51

Another one here - it'll be better when my health improves and the temp goes up to 16°c, but for now, I'm happy in my little bubble :)

Arcadia · 15/03/2024 18:37

HRT gave me my spark back instantly!

Severalwhippets · 15/03/2024 18:53

Me too. Noticed it recently. HRT is not the answer in my experience.

Newyearoldhair · 17/03/2024 12:17

@Arcadia Ive got a mirena coil in so they wont do HRT on top of that.
I have made an effort to put the screens down the last couple of days and get myself out in the fresh air.

@Newyearoldhair I got the Mirena coil last year, in place of the progesterone tablets, which I use with estrogen patches. I think it's the estrogen which lifted the mood for me, but I know HRT isn't for everyone. It's just your post described exactly how I was feeling before I went on HRT!

enchantedsquirrelwood · 17/03/2024 17:56

I feel like this too and am a similar age. I do do exercise (parkrun, bootcamp, pilates) and get out of the house most days, but that's it.

DH and I should be off going away for weekends while ds is at university, but we're not Admittedly he hasn't been well since early Feb, I've been off-colour a couple of times too and my mum had an operation so it's difficult to book things when you've a relative on a hospital waiting list and then might need you.

I am bored, but I can't pick myself up to do anything and spend far too much time on MN. I did feel like this last year too until seeing everyone else's adventures on social media gave me FOMO and pushed me to book something, so maybe it's just the time of year.
